we hired a car4 2 days we took great care of it parkin away from cars we know people hit your car doors but to our horror we noticed a scratch on door. the hire company said that if we took out £30 extra the excess would be £100 but if we didnt it would be £600 (he told us just as we were gettin in car + i dont know about excess but i think it was was if we wrecked the car we;d have to pay £600

im making myself ill thinkin about returnin car, they took at £200 security deposit but obviously were worried he will see the small scratch mark he did a quick check on the car and there was already a scratch on the car that we couldnt see (so were thinkin if he seen that he'll definately see this 1 (were not sure but wer sure the new scratch wasnt the one he was talking about. its to go back 2moro, we went to halfrods and got this cream stuff and polished it, it helped a wee bit but its still noticable its not fair that this person who scratched it caused this. i cant afford £600.?? please

will they charge us £60? is this what excess means? if they notice the scratch? if so this seems really unfair as it wasnt our fault and we very very careful

Some Halfords have small garages and these will do small small sctaches and dents (like door dints) for as little as £30. If you have access to one of these, try them.

If it's just a little scratch then pop into your local Halfords (or similar) and buy some T-Cut. Use this to polish out the scratch - it's the way all the dealerships get rid of minor scratches, just make sure you do the polishing with a circular motion.

You could go over the scratch with some 'touch up paint' in the right shade for the car model and return it when it's raining.

Next time you hire, you may want to look into taking out your own car insurance (with a much lower excess than the hirers).

You might conceal the mark with a bit of polish. When you take it back make sure you get it signed for as inspected then your out of the wood.

Quick solution is to take it back when its raining. You would be suprised what rain drops on the car can cover up on a quick inspection or after dark.
