Christians have long held that hell is a choice that is made by the one who arrives there (e.g., in Matt. 7:13-14 Jesus says those who choose the broad path walk to destruction). Essentially, then, God does not send people to hell. Rather, people send themselves.

There is a hell because God does not forgive everyone. He has allowed a means to be forgiven, but look at half the answers here, or on this site. You have people constantly making fun of God, saying He's made up, has God forgiven them...the answer is NO! Will they perish in hell, the answer is YES! Did they have a means to avoid it, YES! Were they warned, YES! Did they listen, NO!

God is a forgiving God. If you ask for forgiveness you will receive it. But you can not continue to do the same sin over and over and expect for Him to forgive you. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes, and do what we can to not make the same mistake again. We all have two choices in making a decision. One is the correct one, then of course the other is not. If you make the wrong decision and not realizing it is, if you ask for forgiveness it will be given. If you knowingly made the wrong decision, you will also receive forgiveness. BUT you must not repeat the sin. We will continue to learn from our mistakes our entire lives. we also learn without the mistakes. It is a wonderful feeling to wake up in the morning, ready to start your day, and know that today you will learn something. You ask why there is a hell. There are some terrible people in this world. My belief is that they are influenced by the devil Satan. There is nothing we can do for these people except pray that they change their ways.

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen was asked a question, by a heckler, about someone who had passed on. The Bishop replied, "I do not know the answer, but when I get to Heaven I will ask him." The man replied, "But what if he isn't in Heaven?" The Bishop answered him, "Well then you ask him."
How many people do you suppose believe in hell these days?
Many Protestant sects teach that there is no hell, as GOD is too merciful to send anyone to such a terrible place of torment.
These same denominations teach that the Bible is the 'Sole Rule of Authority', that it was handed down by GOD, and is therefore to be believed.
Well, if the Bible is to be believed, it has to be believed in its entirety and not simply what we want to believe.
There are at least 54 verses in Holy Scriptures that reference hell by name. Explain to me why Holy Scripture would mention a non-existent place so many times?
Hell, Gehenna, Tartarus, exists. It is the abode of condemned souls, the devil, and demons. It is the place of eternal punishment. GOD does NOT send anyone to hell. Each of us decides with our own free will whether we will spend eternity in Heaven or in hell.
Here is just a sample of the verses which reference hell:
Psa 9:17,21:10,55:15, Prov 7:27, Sir 9:17,21:9-10,
Isa *5:14,30:33,*34:10,66:24, Ez 31:16-17, Ez *32:27,
Mt 3:12,10:28,13:49-50,18:8-9,23:33,25:41-46, Mk 9:42-48, *Lk12:5, Phil2:10, 2Thes 1:9, 2Pet 2:4,9, Apoc 14:11,*20:9-15,21:8
Here are some verses to remind you that hell surely does exist:
Hell and death were cast into the pool of fire: Apoc 20:14
Hell and destruction are never filled: Prov 27:20
Hell has enlarged itself: Isa 5:14
Wow! Those last two verses hit hard and should be a wake up call.
Apparently there is lots of room for all the people sending themselves there. Do you still believe there is no hell?
Jesus Christ made several statements regarding the existence of hell.
Do you believe what He said in Scripture?
Matt 25:41, "Then He will say to those on His left hand,
'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels'."
Matt 25:46, "And these will go into everlasting punishment,
but the just into everlasting life."
Matt 13: 41-42, "The Son of Man will send forth His angels,
and they will gather out of His Kingdom all scandals and those who
work iniquity, and cast them into the furnace of fire,
where there will be the weeping, and the gnashing of teeth."
If you deny the Word of Christ, you deny Him.
The Catholic Church teaches that hell really does exist.
Please read the Catechism of the Catholic Church,
CCC 1033-1037.
The best answer I have heard to give a person who has said he or she does not believe in hell is, "Well you will when you get there, as you look down and say - Where am I?" By then it is too late to do something about it isn't it? Why not start now and turn to GOD and avoid this place.

God does not forgive everyone. He would like to though. The only way your sins can be forgiven is to accept him as your personal saviour i.e. confess your sins, believe that Jesus (God's son) died for your sin and choose to turn your life around to come into a relionship with God. The scriptures say...if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. You will then learn what He expects of you and realise that living as a Chrisitian is fun and guarantees everlasting life. Connect to a church and read your bible.
People who do not accept God go to hell when they die and the most severe punishment is eternal seperation from God - that is even worse that burning...

We don't know that there is a Hell. Remember that _people_ wrote the books of the Bible dealing with angels and Satan and a revolt in Heaven. God did not write those books.
However, if we presume that there is a Hell and that God forgives all things if one is truly remorseful, then the logical answer is that Hell is a condition people place themselves in. People who refuse to feel remorse for hurting others do not love and therefore cannot join with God, because God is love.
That's why it is said that Hell is distance from God.
The reason you must feel remorse is that remorse is the opening of your mind to love--you mentally put yourself in the victim's place and understand that you did not behave in a loving way toward him. It is this understanding that allows the love of God in touch you so that you might eventually atone and forgive yourself.

There is no hell. God forgives everyone, but people also need to change their behavior. If you do anything wrong and then ask for forgiveness and you keep doing it over and over, it's like your playing with God. Only you can save yourself ;)

All the ‘ Hell ‘ words in the Bible are Mistranslations Sheol , Hades , Gehenna and Tartarus ... none of these are Hell , they have all been Mistranslated as Hell.
Today we have over 40 versions of the Bible that are absent of the word hell.
Personally it is my belief the Hellfire concept was developed by the Christians as a means to control the population and stop the flock from straying – to frighten little children and Atheists into in believing.
PS: I don't want to be forgiven by God , I can stand up on my own two feet and take responsibility for my actions.

Some religions, do teach that God forgives everyone, and those religions don't teach that there is a hell.
Other religions teach that God only forgives members of their religion * and THOSE religions teach that there is a hell.
*Of course those religions will usually play semantical games and say, "it's not about belonging to the right "religion", it's about having a "right relationship" with God. But that "right relationship" with God is the centerpiece of that religion. People who don't belong to that religion don't have the "right relationship" and people who have the "right relationship" are members of that religion.
Sounds like extortion to me.

ha OK first of all no one needs forgiven their is no god at least not the one you think of. first of all do you think that it ?he would look like us ,all the stars and planets out their and they think it would take a male form. come on this was all made up from people that could not even wipe their butt right and they died every day from sickness that we can cure in seconds they needed hope, something to keep them going along their hard times .a story of hope and a reason for why things were the way they were and hell, burning forever? your dead ! you can not feel pain any more. only your body had the nerve endings for that ,they tell us were in pain. when you die what need do you have for anything to tell you brain that your on fire . so there is no hell or heaven its all just to keep us in line and for people that fear dieing to feel at ease
