well thank you still smarter, i really wanted to be insulted. i just got laid off from my job and im worried about keeping a roof over my sons head. i was trying to see if i could find an option other than spending several hundred at the vets office or getting rid of the dog. ill try not to be so lazy next time.

You need a product with one of these two active ingredients--
praziquantal
fenbendazole
I would suggest you try to find a product with the second one just because it kills multiple types of worms. The brandname isn't important. Turn the package over to read the label under active ingredients. Both these products are sold under various names over the counter, and both kill tapeworms.
I would also keep a flea product on the dog.
I'm sure she will be fine. You care enough to look for a cure. It is readily available. Good luck.

Definitely don't try and use an OTC treatment. I really don't think there is anything effective out there for dogs and it will be a waste of money. Take a fresh stool sample in to your vet and they will prescribe proper medication. Droncit is a popular choice to treat tapeworm. Since you don't need to acually bring the dog in, I couldn't imagine a stool sample plus medicine costing more than $30-$40. Make sure your dog is on a flea/tick preventive since tapeworm is usually carried by fleas. It's also a good idea to do another stool sample check approximately 1-2 weeks after medication has been administered to make sure the parasite has been expelled from the dog's body.

If its rice looking pieces its more likely pin worms. If its pieces that look like broken spaghetti that may be tapeworm. (it can leave broken pieces in the stool) Either one you can get to. (wear shoes outside and don't let the dog lick your face). You should also dispose of their stool so it won't infest other animals or reinfest this one.
Its better to resolve it with a vets help.Taking your dog to the vet with a stool sample won't be hundreds of dollars. Chances are its alot cheaper than you think for worms. If you don't have the extra cash, ask your vet if there are any chores you can help with to pay off your bill. Alot of times vets will accept this as payment.
Depending on the age of the pet, worms CAN also be passed on to a pup from their mothers milk, and transmitted between pets. Its not only fleas that cause it but would be an added protection in more ways than one to defend your pet against them.
As a child my dog was diagnosed with PINWORM from a VET.

If you can't afford the office visit, just take a fresh stool sample in to have checked. That way they can check to make sure there aren't any other parasites and give you the proper medication. I agree that you should also ask for Frontline, because fleas are what transmit tapeworm to begin with

My puppy had tape worms, I called my vet and they couldn't see her that day, so I called another vet and they just told me to come in and get the meds. It was a little under $20 so you can call around and see if a vet in your area will let you come pick up the meds. Good luck and hope you can get back on your feet soon!

Tapeworms do appear like little pieces of white rice in feces and on our pets hind end and tail.
Tapes are caused by fleas. You need to treat the fleas and the tapes. Go to your vet with a fecal sample and have them run the floatation to make sure there are no other parasites, pick up Frontline, and your vet will send you home with a proper dewormer to kill the tapeworms.
OTC medications do not work.
ADD: Pinworms do not affect canines.

If your dog has been to a vet in the last year, most vets will give you a pill (droncit) if you know the weight by telling them what you have seen and your circumstances. Best of luck to you.

nothing over the counter will work effectively. take the dog to the vet with a stool sample and they will give you the proper medicine. make sure that you get a flea preventative also, fleas are what caused the dog to get tapeworms

Get the proper stuff from the vets. Over the counter stuff rarely does the job

Doesn't sound like tapeworms...more like pin worms. But it's safer for the dog to ask your vet. He will probably want a sample of stool.
