once an addict always an addict. You can dip a cucumber in vineger over and over. Then one day it becomes a pickle. But it will never become a cucmber again. LOL. I am a recovering heroin addict. The disease of addiction changes the subconcious portion of your brain. It manifests itself in the hypothalmus area. Did you know that 90 percent of alaskan indians are born addicts. 60 percent of american indians are born addicts and 0 percent of Japanese are born addicts. We can also use drugs or drink long enough that our brains develop into addiction. That is why it is labeled as a disease. Because once you have it, you have it forever. It can be treated. When treated, addicts actually become better than they were evre before. I have been in recovery for 14 months. I have peace and stillness in my mind that I have never experienced before. Even before I used drugs. Addiction is the only disease, that when treated you actually become better than ever before.

"Once an addict, always an addict" is actually something that professionals associated with recovery from addiction say. It means that even when an addict stop using, the temptation, the potential for backsliding is always there. And it is true. However, that doesn't mean that recovery is not possible, or even rare. It happens all the time. As to what an addict will do for their fix, that depends on the individual. Many will resort to stealing and violence if that is their only recourse. Obviously, those with more means find other ways. As to Limbaugh, I have no love for him. He is a blowhard who does not contribute meaningfully to the political debate. He is a classic example of what is wrong with politics...he enhances the notion that one side is 100% right and the other is not merely wrong, but malicious. It makes it that much harder for the sides to work together. But if he's paid his debt to society, and is in recovery, I have no problem with him being allowed on the air. I wish he had no audience, but again, that's because of the content, not his personal story.

No - they are not called an addict; they have an addictive personality which means that it is possible to fall back into those patterns easily. Keep up the good work.

No, but they do have an addictive personality. It's something the recovering or recovered addict must remain aware of throughout life.

no, i think labeling your self can sometimes be a crutch. if some one relapses, they can just say...well im an addict. if you change what you think, it makes a big difference. you can say i was addicted but to say you are an addict is still keeping it fresh.
