What has existed forever with no origin - a thin blue gas, like Isaac Asimnov claims; or perhaps matter, energy, electrons...maybe even the entire universe itself has always been here with no origin - it never began, it just always was, right?
And secondly - how did intelligence evolve? I mean as we arose from the soupy liquid mass as amoebas how did our brains get created and evolve into thinking, feeling human beings who could love and hate; do good and evil; or weren't just pure instinctive mammals like the rest of the animal kingdom but actually had some freedom to choose and refine our own actions. How did our intelligence evolve?
The only answer I will not accept - and the one you continue to give is this one: "Just because I can't explain it doesn't mean I have to accept your explanation!"
Sorry - unacceptable. You love logic. I want a logical answer.

OK I get it - the new answer from the atheist playbook: "Study this for yourself!"
Talk about intellectually lazy! This is Yahoo ANSWERS - that's pretty much what we do here. If you don't have the answer - and it's painfully obvious you don't - at least have the courage to admit it!

Their is no logical answer for life by chance. Simply put? there just is not enough time.
For all the accidents to happen to create all the billions of lifeforms, with the intrinsic complexity of the larger, ones, would have had to take trillions upon trillions of years.
With any scientific dating of the earth, we're not even in the ballpark.
I heard last night that if we were to unravel the human DNA, it would reach to the moon. How can anyone really believe that life would form, and then through a series of mishaps, or accidents just become more complex?

I am not atheists, I do believe in creation, see it doesn't really matter how long the universe has been there or how old the earth is, someone still put it there, and this is what the scientists are having great difficulty convincing believers, why they try and disprove something that cannot be disproved is the way their minds have evolved or brain to be more specific.
Everyone has a different level of intelligence but this does not mean that one cannot improve their intelligence by seeking and learning, others could care less, caring more for the corporal satisfactions this world offers, this is enough for them so they don't have the need for spiritual guidance because they don't feel spiritual, this does not make them bad people, its just the way they are.
Having said that its the condemnations and put downs that I have a hard time with, on both sides the believers and non believers, does it really matter, we haven't evolved intellectually at all as far as I can see because of all the comebacks you get when you are merely asking a question.
No wonder we are not ready to discover anything beyond what we can already see, we can only take apart and examine the physical because scientists job is to do this, if they cannot see it therefor it must not be there. Its a darn shame that people can't even agree to disagree and accept a person's different view on things so they can take the time to reflect if it has merrit instead of shooting it down instantly because it is against what you have learned and observed. We all learn and observe but that does not make us right all the time because in all things we choose without even realizing what we will take from this or that experience. Peace to all

If you won't accept "I don't know" then you are assuming that atheists all hold various degrees in biology, astronomy, physics, chemistry, and several other -ologies I'm not even aware of. I am not Carl Sagan, nor do I claim to be.
What you are really asking is what happened before the Big Bang. There are several theories that deal with this, but none that has been universally accepted (that I am aware of) to this date. You will always have the question of "Well then, what happened before that?"
The search for true knowledge is an amazing one-one that I find beautiful.
By your saying "Just because I can't explain it, doesn't mean I have to accept your explanation!" imply that I somehow should accept your god for the things I don't know yet?
To me, that is the nth of utter silliness. You've read this before, and I'm not sure why you can't accept it. To me-saying "my god did it" to all things we are currently studying, but as of yet do not have a definitive answer to is lazy. It's lazy, it actively promotes ignorance, and is illogical.
Would you like me to say that there is perhaps a deity who did do it all, but everything can and will someday be explained by science (even if it's "yep, "god" did it this way), then fine. There is a possibility of a deity.
The possibility of your particular deity though-I think absolutely not. At least not as he is described in your holy book.
The last part-all animals have intelligence. Our intelligence evolved to better suit our needs to survive on this planet.
You're not going to accept any answer, but I've done my best. You can now bask in the emotional responses from the faithful who think you've somehow made a point to atheists...rather than really just setting up a false pedestal to look good to the already converted. If you had wanted true answers you would not be close minded. And yes, I've read your posts. You seem to glory in bashing atheists rather than finding any real point to make that is based on facts, rather than emotional opinion.

How did intelligence evolve? From necessity, then when we had time to worry about other things besides survival, we started thinking of ways to entertain ourselves.
Have you ever taken an anatomy or psych class? The human brain isn't that much of a mystery anymore.
As for your first question, is it much more realistic to believe some "being" created the universe?
I'm not an atheist, I am more of a Pagan if anything. I think the universe is "the bigger thing", so I don't put a lot of thought into where it came from.

Well i'm agnostic, but I hate ignorance so here's your answers
Existed forever with no Origin = Elmo, Elmo has always been and always will be
How did intelligence evolve = By Elmo's grace. It has been the great lord Elmo's plan from the start
does that make any more sense than "God did it?"
lol,
I would answer properly, but you seem too not actually care about the answer and are just posting this as a malicious response to the question "A question Christians have refused to answer....?????" therefore the only time I wish too even spend on you is time spent pissing you off, therefore my answer to any question you pull out of your hamster sized brain... is Elmo

How can we put a beginning on anything? something was there before that. Infinity, again a hard concept to absorb that there is no end to space. It's not hard to imagine that intelligent life has formed time and time again throughout the universe and on this planet only to be buried in time by the forces of the universe. Religion, it could be argued was created for mans sanity, we need to believe that we're just not dust in the wind and that there is some grand design for our existence, based solely on faith. Science, on the other hand would pretty much support the dust in the wind theory. Pretty deep question........

First of all, just because your question wasn´t answered, doesn´t mean that people don´t want to answer the question. Maybe there where only christians around at the time.
Secondly: How DID intelligence evolve? As a cognitive psychologist, I can actually answer that. The brain evolves, depending on the environment it is in. The more challenges there are, or the more complex the environment is, the more the brain has a need to evolve. Some biological organism evolve slower than others in different areas. Intelligence is a result of biological evolution.
If you want to know more about it - take a course in neuro-science.

I apply the Mr Danger Rule of the Lesser Absurdity to the problem
The MDRLA states:
"That when one is confronted with two or more basically absurd arguments then the more correct argument is the one that is the least absurd "
1) An incredibly complex universe starting out from absolutely nothing -Absurd
2)A being capable of creating universes simply being there fully formed and capable of creating that incredibly complex universe-More absurd

I personally was raised Catholic, but do not follow 'structured' religion for my own personal reasons. With that said I do believe in a God, and while I'm tolerant of people's opinions, I will never understand those who don't believe in a God.
I can care less about these people, as my job is not to change the World or convince people of anything. I just will never understand how some people cannot believe in a God.
There are so many things in this World that happen which I am convinced must be the result of a God. I will never try to convince anyone of this as it is not my place, and those that need convincing will not comprehend what I see as their minds are so closed already.
Also, I can care less about these people as I said before, and it is not my place nor my interest what these people believe, that is their choice.
As for your specific questions, I believe that all science was created by God. I also believe that some things cannot be explained, and that is OK. I find it quite arrogant that some people believe that everything can be explained by science.

If you had not slept in your biology class you would know that the brain is in an evolutionary process. We have a very simple marine animal brain, a reptilian brain a mammalian brain and then a frontal lobe and higher cortex. We evolved to think, but then you don't like that evolution word, which is obvious from your question. But then you have put humans in a class different from the "rest of the animal kingdom". There are animals that talk to humans, Koko the gorilla learned sign language and taught it to her offspring and both of them can communicate, in complete thoughts, to humans who know sign language. Many birds can count and use tools. You are the arrogant one thinking you are so superior. The rest of us actually believe in reality.

I think that you and many of those answering may be confusing mind with brain. Your brain is an amazing organ it controls our muscles, respiration, pulmonary function and a host of other lesser known functions, but it does not think.
Thought is a function of mind that exists independent of anything physical. What appears to be the brain thinking in brain function imaging and other brain measuring attempts is only blood flow being measured to the part of the brain that acts as an interface between the mind and the body. This is the secondary function of the brain after regulating bodily functions. It acts as the interface, or the mind body connection.
Without it there would be no way for the nonphysical mind to exert any control over the physical body.
It is interesting that science has done its best to overlook this fact for so long. The silly idea that thought is some magical function of some mysterious electrochemical reaction is so vague as to be hilarious. There are several ways to disprove this theory beyond any shadow of a doubt.
Being nonphysical in source your mind is in no way effected by the death of the body and loss of the mind body interface, or brain.
Love and blessings.
