Cant get my LG 50" plasma to work with my Samsung DVD/VCR V9700 combo. TV doesn't recognize the HDMI DVD play

Some DVD players require that while in composite/component video (so you can see the menu) you go to the video/system setup page and explicitly specify that you want HDMI out.

After you specify HDMI out it should work just fine.
Make also sure you don't specify 1080p output if you only have a 720p TV.
