Evil is defined as sinning against God's commandments. As soon as God made commandments, there was evil.

That isn't to say that God "created" evil - only the definition.

In our universe, there must be opposites in all things. One can only measure good because we can compare it to evil.

Well I'm a Christian but I also have trouble with a literal interpretation of Genesis (and Revelation too, for that matter) - but I suppose evil was always meant to exist in this world for some reason - perhaps not the least of which was just so we would know what "good" is.

I definitely believe we are also creatures of free will - we could love God, worship, honor, obey and serve Him; or we are certainly free not to believe in Him - to follow our own selfish will and fleshly desires. I think that too was meant to be by our Maker, part of His divine plan for humanity. Most likely because love given under duress is not really love at all. I mean who among us wants anyone to love us because they have to, as if they have no choice in the matter?!?

There was no real curse involved; this is only a misinterpretation.

When the bible speaks of partaking of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you are reading what is called a metaphor. Knowledge of good and evil is a metaphoric reference to judgment. When you judge something you attempt to determine if it is acceptable or not. In effect you are deciding if it is good or evil from your point of view.

Once we were just like the animals and recognized that everything in the garden that God had given us was good. At some point we started to judge some thing as being better than others are. This set up a situation where something’s were more appealing to us than others. We started wishing for these things and were no longer happy with some of the other things in the garden.

This is what is referred to as the fall of man, or separation from God. Some references actually call this the detour into insanity. This self-induced separation from the knowledge of the perfection of god’s gifts to us was never shared by the animals. They were too smart to fall for this silly idea and were not fooled by the ideas of good and evil. For this reason they exist along side of us still experiencing the perfection of the garden. While we have excluded ourselves with our ideas of judgment. This is a truly fascinating subject that has many interesting facets. Including how to reverse the process and return to the original state. If you feel the need to discuss it further send an email.

Love and blessings.

It is absurd isn't it. What did that converse in - Paslmouth.

Evil is in the world because people are frightened and fear leads to the need for security. and the need for security leads to making others the same as you. And that leads to oppression. and so on

And no amount of bashing people over the mind with a 4000 year old myth will change anything. It never did and never will.

No, I believe there is evil in the world because man is an animal. And like any predator (humans have stereoscopic vision, incisors and omnivorous appetites which are typical of predators) we are brutal.

There is evil in the world because of our free will. Since creation, humanity, chose to follow what Satan had to offer, rather than what God has to offer. Only a few, in comparison, with the rest of humanity, have made a commitment to follow God and to support his Kingdom.

And the Lord god Commanded the man, saying of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat. for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
