John 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

John 12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,

John 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

John 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

BATGIRL 2: a week ago you asked a question that supported abortion. This week your saying, and I quote: "It is FAR more Christianlike to help the man and feed his body rather than trying to feed his soul." Your very confussing, but as for me, Let my body starve for a season, feed my soul that is eternal.

" something thing says" well if that something that says is GOD of course I would.....but like "ecterbob" I have worked in the medical field also, and if I was all a lone in the car, I would go to church and ask a couple of the men to go get him if the homeless man said yes,........................ and like" problem," the church I use to go to also does that, it's a wonderful thing................ Now if I had my husband and one of my boys in the car, then yes I'd take him to church with me.......if the homeless man said yes they'd like to go.

I agree with your responders, ecterbob and imezru2. (as well as a few others :)
The world is rapidly becoming a VERY dangerous place! Speaking as someone that DID pick up a person & was almost raped & killed for doing so..I would NOT advise it.
You can do several of the things listed by some of the other responders in that you can go to the church & tell the elders of the person that seems to be in need of help, or you can offer that person money, (also do not reccommend that either) or you CAN buy coupons for places such as Denny's or fast food places & when you feel the "need" to help someone that is holding a sign asking for "food or money"...give them the GIFT of a food coupon...then you KNOW they will be able to get a hot meal, when they WANT one. (rather than use the money for something that is NOT healthy for them!) Also if more good hearted people gave the gift of a food coupon, rather than money..I can almost BET there would be less people holding out those "signs" for money or food!
Unfortunately this world is on the process of becoming increasingly evil, we flood our homes with the violence & sex from video games to movies to just plain regular T.V. and then "expect" to keep ourselves from "evil" thoughts and intentions?!
There ARE much better ways to get "help" to the homeless!! Than to stop & pick them up to go to church.
SUPPORT your local Missions & Homeless shelters (these places DO help the homeless & they also give the Word of God to them as well!!) That is a MUCH smarter & safer way to go!

I did that. There is a man I see a lot in our town walking the streets. I talked to him at the grocery store. He is a tall handsome man with pretty green eyes...He said he was a Captain in the Army at one time. His family has deserted him for some reason. No one will hire him for a job so he is on the streets.
I have bought him meals many times. I once ask him to attend a free dinner event at our church. He smelled so terrible I was even afraid the people would wish he would leave.
If you give him money he always thanks you. I one time bought him a big breakfast and he ask if that was all I was going to buy for him...It seemed his mind was leaving him at that time. I still see him walking the streets. He now has a long white beard but he is thin and seems in good health....He will probably live longer than me. All that walking is good for us all.
I would never advise anyone to pick one of them up though. I don't think they are in the best of mental health. You never know what they might try. Many of them have been in prison.

I would just ask him if there was anything that he needed. Tell him that you were on your way to church and he was welcome to come. The bible talks about the very subject and scolds the ones that would say Peace be with you. If a man is cold give him your coat, if a man is hungry feed him. Prayer and worship will not stop the hunger for food. I would invite him though as a icing on the cake so to speak. Showing the love of Christ in supplying a physical need should be first.

Well I would invite him to come to church, and knowing alot about homelessness, but Church is not the four corner building, that the so-called people worship in, since alot of that kind of pretentending is going on there, Church is a part of the Imbodyment of Father God in Heaven, To sit with this man or women or child, feeding together in his word learning, ministering, offering our service and time as the sacrifice which we are here for.

As the Father said in his teaching, beware for we dont know when we are in the company of angles. Excellent Question.

I read further. Don-s,, You're right they say don't judge me, but then they turn right around with this jacked up-phrase and say judge not that ye should not be judged, Father god do let us judge for what we see that is not of him, and people get mad when they are judged for what they do that is not of God, then they say I'm not perfect but they are the first lying jerks that create havack and laugh about it, they are the first one's making up excuses why they cant help some-one less fortunate than them, for they are in my book true fake Christians, For He says test ye the Spirit, There's a bunch of (Hippo-crits)) out there in response to a lot of questions and staments I've noticed, dont get mad, Iv'e noticed too when spiritual questions are asked they run straight to the bible and look it up, But how much do they beleave, From their Heart, Can they asnwer a question from knowledge, wisdom, and thru prayer, this remains to be seen and read, Your question with follow up statment comes from the Heart Don's, I know real when I read it, because I have a heart of Father God To. And for the lady that picked up some-one and was almost raped, you were not lead by the spirit of Father God in Heaven it might of been one of those well let me go help a homeless person it's christmas I feel like helping some one. Its not right what happened to you but Dont take this wrong A word to the World Quit Playing Church

Why not? Do you feel so superior to "others" that you push them aside when you have a "thought" even when you are on your way to church? What other kind of a "sign" would you want to do some good for someone. The worst thing that could happen to you is he would say no--but think of all the good that could come of it. While living in a third world country--at first I didn't know what I was going to do in my spare time. by the time I had left the Island--because of my good deeds---I was the proud recipient of the best and closest friends in the world. What's more rewarding than saving some body's life by renewing their faith in mankind. go for it

Oh I would most definately WANT to follow the Lord's leading on this! But to be honest I would be afraid I would just stop and give him something to eat, or even keep driving thinking I am late for church-- but that conviction would STAY with me let me tell you! I have felt that conviction before, when I passed someone by or something by and should of stopped and talked to that person- or done something that I just didn't want to do. I hate when I am not BOLD.

But I agree that we should listen to the Lord, and if we feel that need to invite someone we see to church we should! God sometimes tugs on our hearts! And of course it is in His word, that we ought to invite others to church--- so because it is also biblical, this is something we should be doing...and I know I SHOULD BE DOING! So I get a big SLAP on the hand.

Yes, I am sure that I would. Funny thing, I just finished watching this movie called
"Conversations with God." It was all about this homeless man who became very rich after writing his book. The movie explains that not all homeless people are dangerous or crazy. He lost his job because he became hurt in an accident some are so down on their luck that they are homeless. There were a few people who were afraid of him during the movie.

If you suspect the the 'something' is really from God then you SHOULD stop and invite him to church. Then my Church would help to provide him with food, clothes, short term accommodation and guide him towards agencies that could help further.

Otherwise (if the 'something' wasn't from God) just the second part.

If "something" told me to stop and invite him to come to church........that's what I would do. We must be obedient to the Lord.

A few weeks ago, something similar happened. Before our church moved, it was in a very low income area....lots of homeless.
My husband and I stopped in the gas station to get a drink before church.
There was a man in there looking at everything, counting what little bit of change he had. I knew we had to get him some food.
I did not invite him to church, but, I did get him something to eat, and then blessed him....that's what I was suppose to do at that moment.
