Mallard, A4 class locomotive, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley of the LNER, which reached 126mph with a test train on the East Coat Main line on July 3rd 1938.
Flying Scotsman had previously held the record (112mph).
Both locomotives are preserved.
The record set by Mallard was a world rail speed record at the time and remains unbeaten for a steam locomotive.
