what's the best way to toilet training my puppy?

My pup still has occasional acciddents if I'm not paying attention, but ours was potty trained in about a week. Just remember, the younger they are, the more they have to use the bathroom. We took ours out every hour for the 1st few days. Brought her to the door, said "You gotta go potty?", walked her outside & told her "go potty". She didn't always go, but it got her into the habit of going to the door for a potty break. Now she walks to the door & stares at us. You'll probably have to be very vigilant of her for a while until she gets older, can hold herself longer, & gets the system down.

Don't discipline him if you didn't see the deed. Doing that doesn't help as he won't know what he's being disciplined for. Also, rubbing they're nose in it doesn't help either. If we saw ours squating, or doing the deed, we would yell "NO" many times & loadly/sternly. She eventually got to the point that she would squat to poop & as soon as we yelled she would pick that butt right back up & we'd bring her outside. We haven't had an accident in a while.

At night, while you are potty training, keep him in a kennel, or a small closed off space. Animals will not typically use the bathroom where they sleep. Just make sure you walk him prior to putting him in and right after you take him out. For a young pup, you may have to take them out of the kennel a couple times through the night, as they won't last too much past an hour, but a 3month old should be able to hold it for 3-4 hours.

It's all about consistency, and don't forget to praise them as if they did something amazing.

You need to take him outside far more frequently than you are. You should also take him out just before you want him to settle for the night. When you do take him and he does it outside be sure to praise him, he needs to know he is doing the right thing. Please don't rub his nose in it, as suggested, it's cruel and will only teach the dog to fear you! (Would people rub a babies nose in their poo?) He shouldn't even be punished as he will have forgotten he did it by the time you find it. You could try getting him a crate and letting him sleep in there. No dog likes to soil their 'den' and it will help him learn to hold it till morning. Let him outside as soon as you get up, as soon as he's fed, as soon as he wakes from a nap and always last thing at night.
Good Luck!

Crate training is a good idea, My dog (shes an adult though) is on a schedule, its mostly eat in the morning, poo outside, eat in the evening poo outside, the rest is pee breaks.

You have to set up a schedule of times to take him out.If you catch him going in the house make a note of the time and start taking him out 5 minutes prior the next day It is not so much as training him as it is training yourself to keep to a schedule. Set times to feed and set times to walk.

so not free feed your dog, in other word don't leave food out. set food down twice or three times a day, then walk him roughly a 30 minutes after eating.

Every time he has a pooh, rub his nose in it, a little, and then put him on the lawn immediately. sounds awful, but works. He will then learn that he has to do it outside, but you have to put a puppy out more than twice a day.

You have to walk him in the evening also so he can do his business before retiring for the night too. No dog can hold it for that long.

You need to crate train your puppy. Get a crate for him to sleep in.
