I am having trouble reading small print when I read or do sudoku, I dont want specs, if I carry on without glasses will my eyes get worse quicker than if I had glasses, and can I just get some magnifying ones from the chemist for when I read?

Its not down to vanity I just lose sunglasses and break them like theres no tomorrow !!! so I dont want expensive specs as I KNOW It will be a waste of money.
contacts wouldnt be any good as I only need to see small print, so I would be wearing them all the time when I only need to see print clearly maybe 2-3 times a day.

Wearing glasses helps you see clearly. It does not make your eyes work better or worse.

At the least you should get your eyes checked. You can get a prescription so you will know what you need. If your eyeballs are irregularly shaped (astigmatism)) you would need a prescription that not only corrects the focus in general but also has a unique shape that matches the unique shape of your eyeballs. When you get the off the shelf lenses from the store they will help with the focusing but can never handle all the possibilities of uniquely-shaped eyeballs.

You will also find out from the optician if one eye is significantly worse that the other. In that case a pair of off-the-shelf drug store glasses will never match your needs.

If you go without glasses that match your eyes their muscles will always be straining to give you a clear image. That will lead you to a lifetime of headaches.

If you are worrying about the cost of prescription glasses you can be looking for a place with a price in your range. If it is a vanity thing there are all kinds of eyeglass frames that you can pick to match your face shape and your coloring, so they become a fashion accessory.

You do need an eye test as straining your eyes can cause damage and headaches. Your optician may say you just need reading glasses and of course it's up to you how often you wear them.

There's a large choice of glasses and you'll get used to wearing them pretty quickly, especially when you discover that the world can actually be in focus! If price is an issue, look for online deals. There's a website called Glasses Direct which has a good range for £15 (I'm about to order a pair from there).

And in the long term you can always go for contact lenses or laser eye treatment.

I use a simple cheap pair from the market 2 for £5.00. I only use them on the p.c. and my eyes have not got any worse.
Honest check the markets out, opticians will charge a fortune, then money spin you every 6 months with new prescriptions!!
You need to make sure you get the right cheap pair by reading something with them on. Decent stalls will have a purpose made card that tells you your needs.
mine for instance are +1.50's...hope i have done you proud here????

well i was told i needed gasses but they never helped and often gave me headaches so i stopped using them without telling my opticion and my eyes got better by them self, but i would hurt to go and see and optician.
