I was at the SPCA yesterday, like I am regularly, and a couple brought in 3 puppies to be surrendered.

Well the puppies were Heinz 57's and the were loaded with fleas. (and I mean loaded!) Well, the SPCA refused to accept them since they were only about 6 weeks old.(Their policy is no animal under 8 weeks old.)

These people got very upset and threatened to not let the SPCA clinic NOT fix their female dog on Monday because they wouldn't take in the puppies. This couple claim that they have 11 dogs at their home and they just couldn't handle the 3 extra puppies for 2 weeks.

I gave the couple my business card and told them I would take in the puppies if they couldn't handle them for the next two weeks.

If you were there, what would you have done?

Mentally beaten the people over the head with a tire iron, slashed their tires, keyed their car, stolen their address, drove to their house stole all their other animals and found them good homes.

While I was mentally doing all that I would have smiled and done just what you did.

I would have taken them and then cleaned them up and found them homes. I would have even offered a little cash to take Mom and puppies in if they would sell her. (not a lot just fifty dollars or so) That way, I could make sure mom got some Frontline and got fattened up and spayed myself.

And I would have made the SPCA looked like egotists in the press by reporting this to all the local newspapers and news stations. First of all you don't spay 6wks postpartum unless there is a medical emergency. And why didn't they take the puppies if that was the agreement in place with these people? They lied to those people. And why-- if they really were "concerned" about the puppies-- didn't they take them and treat them for fleas? The SPCA dropped the ball in order to further their own pro-spay agenda. It had nothing to do with the care and welfare of the dogs. You showed compassion. They had a mere political and social agenda to advance. Shame on them.

I would have done , just that. Puppies are a hand full & at 6 weeks
can get in & out of everything. So if you had just let them take the puppies back home with them .Hard to tell what may have happen to them. With all of the other dogs.

Even though the puppies are a bit young, it's clear those people don't want or care about the puppies. I think you did the right thing. The people needed to know that there was someone willing to take the puppies if they are no longer able to handle it. If you wouldn't have done that, they may have become so frustrated that they may have killed the unwanted puppies. At least now they have someone to take the pups if it becomes too much for them. Thanks, sweetie!

Thank God you were there at the right moment. You did exactly the same thing most of us would have done. Those little puppies now have a chance. Heaven knows what would have happened to them if you were not there. Bless you.

I believe one of two things in cases like this. One, God puts me in places because I am supposed to help or I have " SUCKER' stamped on my forehead? You decide which it is. I would be bathing three puppies as we speak. Good Luck finding them homes. If you're anything like me, when the two weeks is up, you will be so attached to them you wont trust the shelter to find them new homes. You will do it yourself.

Thank you for what you've done. Personally I couldn't manage.
This story, however, is just one example why "dog ownership" should be licensed and better "regulated"
These people are complete assholes and waste of space on this planet.
St.Lady : not sure if you got my reply, but thank you for your email!!!

I would have probably taken them back for the two weeks. In a month they might still be here.
Maybe.
