The self-authenticating, God-breathed word contained in the Old and New Testaments is sufficient for faith and practice.

I am sorry but the bible is the truth and so I cannot by opass it and not quote from it.
For years, man tried to figure out what was holding up the earth. Interesting, but absurd ideas were concocted. Meanwhile, the Bible had already stated, in Job 26:7 "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing." Oh, and by the way, modern telescopes confirm that empty place toward the north in the heavens. (Had the Bible stated that this empty space was in the east or west, there would have been reason for calling it in error, since east and west directions toward the heavens change each hour!)
In Leviticus 17:22, the Bible states that "For the life of the flesh is in the blood:" This was written thousands of years before that became medical truth.
Bible is not a textbook of history, but it is historically correct. For many years, critics of the Bible scoffed at its claim that Abraham came from Ur of the Chaldees. There was no "scientific proof that such a place existed. However, later excavations gave the proof that some were looking for. Again, the Bible has outlived its historical critics.
The Bible stands alone as God’s Word, and needs no additional book to explain or complete it.

Betty, that is a good and legitimate question, the constraint that you put on it makes any answer difficult. It's like saying prove that there is a car in my garage without opening the doors or looking in the window.
Thousands of years ago, when many societies felt that Atlas held the world on his shoulders or that it was carried around on the back of a turtle, the Bible said something far more accurately.
When science describes how the earth and man came into existence the Bible had already recorded the same chain of events in the same order thousands of years before (not, of course, caused by evolution).
There are many examples of scientific truth in the scriptures, even though it is not a book of science. But I can't tell you about them because you don't want to hear from the source.

Statistically maybe... Depending on who you ask there has been an equation that tried to define the possibility that God exists... Some scientists say the probability is up around 60% While others like Dawkins say it is around 20%
Still, there is a minute chance the he does/doesn't exist... so Logically there must be a chance that the Bible is right or at least partially correct

Certain sections move me. I am impressed with the wisdom of some parts and confused and challenged by others. The parts that quote Jesus seem the most real and challenging. He inspired Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. And all of the above inspire me.

When the Roman King Constantine started the 1st christian church he had the gospels rewritten to put the church in power and place men over women. He allowed the pagans to keep there hollidays so long as they put Jesus in place of there gods. If you research the Greek gods you will find that all the "miracles" that Jesus performed in the bible were fist done by the Greek gods. The virgin birth, walking on water, Healing the sick, All of them. They had to attribute these powers to Jesus to get the pagans into the church. This makes the Bible and the Christian religion,, all religions for that matter a CROCH!

the bible does contain some facts, and some facts are slightly modified to suit the opinions of the people who actually wrote the bible, and of course, a great part of it is fiction.

First book printed. And it's 2000 years old. If it managed to remain all that time, must be a reason for it.

Because you can justify any action using the Bible. Slavery? It's in the Bible! Repressing women? God would've wanted it that way! Stoning gays? God is alright with that!
It just has to be true if you can justify any thing that comes into your sick sadistic mind.
