Absolutely not. Haven't you noticed the downward spiral it is caught in? You must turn to heathen currencies such as the Euro to find financial salvation!
Aside from that, no. Free market economics as it is practiced today displays an inherent lack of ethical and moral values, and cannot possibly be considered sensible in a long term sense. Not that any of it's leaders need to care - odds are they'll be long dead by the time the cold and cruel society their chosen system stands for finally collapses.

To say Americans worship the almighty dollar is an unfair statement, many are happy to just earn enough to make a decent living. The greed you are alluding is realy practiced by a few. However, if they are good at making money and treat others with fairness, give to charity, support good social policies and treat their employees with respect, then they can earn as much as they wish. To be realistic, the free market is for now, at least, the socio economic system that works. Though it fuels itself on greed and desire it has also provided most people with a decent standard of living. Personaly though, the next step in our our socio- economic evalution will be socialism, then communism, but for now, given the current state of our spiritual development as human beings it is the free market that works. There are however, definite problems with it, in that there is far too much wealth concentrated in the hands of a few and too many are in poverty, in fact, regarding poverty, having one in that state, is one too many. I make very good money in China but what is payed to me it is not the reason why I work here, though admittingly it is nice to have a good salary! The point is one can have as much as they wish as long as they are not attached to it, be it money, possessions, freinds or even religion.

Nope. Worship of money does not contribute to my own spiritual development, not does it uplift my soul. I prefer to 'worship' my abilities to study and read and grow. Although, if I had worshiped the dollar, I might have enough for a little bit of Starbuck's heaven this morning.

Yes especially since it is failing these days, maybe you should worship the almighty Euro? You could have them buried with you when you go, for whatever good it might do.

Is it more sensible to worship an inanimate object instead of the Living and True God who made you and sustains you?

Heavens no! Haven't you read how the buying power of the dollar is decreasing and how the dollar is falling in value compared to other currencies?
Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Build the house of your life on the solid rock of Christ Jesus, not on the shifting sand of currency.
Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
24 "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it."

What goes round, comes round. The dollar declares,'In God we trust'. So we are back.
