I have NTSC PS3 down in Europe, so(based on my experience):
1). You'll need a good power converter (220V -> 110V, 50Hz -> 60Hz, 500W), get a good, heavy one.
2). PS3 games are region free, so far I'm able to play all my PAL PS3 games.
3). Movies and PS1/2 games are region locked, you won't be able to play PAL games and movies on NTSC PS3.
4). 60GB NTSC has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games.
5). Online is OK.

The PS3 games are region-free so you will be able to play games bought over here however DVDs, Blu-ray discs and PS1 and PS2 games are region coded so you will not be able to play those. I think if you get a regular British to American voltage adapter it should work.

maximum PS3 video games are area unfastened, although some builders can area lock video games. as an occasion, GTA IV won't run on SDTV if it is from yet another area. it is not important for HDTVs.
