fact that is often ignored is that Jesus was never named Immanuel, nor did anyone ever address him as Immanuel when he lived.

Well, Immanuel means "god is with this one". If you believe Jesus is god, or son of god, of course god is with him.

Its kinda circular logic.

See Matthew, chapter 1, verses 18 to 25. In particular verses 20 to 23: ...the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream and said to him, "Joseph, son of David, have no fear about talking Mary as your wife. It is by the Holy Spirit that she has concieved this child. She is to have a son and you are to name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins." All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said throught the prophet:

"The virgin shall be with child
and give birth to a son
and they shall call him Immanuel."

a name which means "God is with us."

The quoted verse is a prophetic interpretation of Isiah 7:14.

The translation for the name Immanuel is "God with us."

Jesus came to earth from the Father for the purpose of bringing salvation to man; born of the virgin Mary.

Isaiah 7:14 reads;
"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel."

Matthew 1:20-23 says;
20 But while he thought on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of Daivd, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21 And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."

Immanuel = “God with us” or “with us is God”

Job 9:2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?...8 Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Psalms 107:23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. 28 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Mark 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
