Atheists and believers in religion are steadfast in their beliefs but an agnostic has an open mind. Is it not better to leave one´s mind open to any possibility than keep it closed to one simple thing only. I believe there was a man called Jesus but I don´t believe in God, but I read so much about evolution, and at the same time are we absolutely certain scientists are right. They have been proved wrong often. Where do you all stand on the subject of an open mind.

In an election you can have people deep-rooted in one party or another never swaying in their beliefs, but it is the open-minded voters that will actually make a difference.

No belief is better than any other belief, for beliefs are not based on whether they are right or wrong, just that they are.. well.. believed. Redundancy.. ouch..

On to open mindedness:
Open mindedness, in my opinion, is a virtue every person should have, to an extent. Your mind cannot be open to the point where every idea that you come into contact with alters your views and shatters your beliefs. Having an open mind with a sort of.. filtration system works best. Listen to everything that everyone says, but think everything through for yourself. If someone tells you that 2=3 and explains it thoroughly, don't assume that that is true automatically. Use the tools you have inside and outside of you to discern what is a fact, what is a lie and what is a fable.

I think an open mind is great, regardless of beliefs. Someone can be a devout Christian or other belief, or a steadfast atheist, and still have an open mind. I do not necessarily think it's "better" to be an agnostic, but better to believe what you believe whole heartedly, but at the same time respecting other's beliefs. If only!!

"some say agnostic is believing in God with out training a definite faith." you recognize, 5 seconds of googling would make it easier to recognize what it truthfully is. it extremely isn't it. on the same time as you're at it, seem up "deism" and "theism". i won't be able to have faith you have been on right here for this long and not picked up on those words. and you'd be the two - (a)gnosticism is a stance on knowlegde, (a)theism is a stance on concept. That pronounced, i'm as agnostic approximately your specific god as i'm approximately leprechauns or fairies.

I think it's best for me because I can't trust people. I used to be Christian but I had doubts about a certain man-god and religion just became too much for me. I see all these crazy people saying "THIS IS THE TRUTH!" and I can't stand it anymore or I'll go crazy. So I just forget about religion and not accept anything nor deny it.

An open mind for me is a curious mind.

I am an atheist who makes no claims of "truth" since that is a subjective word.

Being agnostic for a certain amount of time is a good thing.....It gives you a chance to somewhat objectively reflect on your beliefs.....but at some point you need to pick a side.
I mean, who are you if you don't even know what you believe?

I would rather live as though he exists to find out he doesn't than to live like he doesn't and find out he does... eternity is a long time. Science does not necessarily contradict religion...I had a professor who was the head of the Science Department at my college and he goes to church every sunday.

An agnostic position is a very honest one. Atheists and fundamentalists are full bs. They think they know the truth. No-one does.

Depends on who's right.

If Atheists are right, no prob.

If Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, or Shintoists are right, you get another chance.

If Muslims or Mormons are right, you go to a lower station of heaven.

If Jews or Christians are right, then you got eternal problems.
