The 747 is built and designed by Boeing, an American company, thus it is an AIRplane.

The Boeing 747 was not exactly named that for a reason. boeing started out with the old 707, and with each aircraft they just increase the middle number (ex. 707, 717, 727, and so on...) it was just the order that the planes came in. There isn't really a "reason" except that it just came in that order. Does this help at all?

well... this seems pretty obvious... but it is build by the Boeing Company; and it was the next model designed after the 737. so the next number... 747.... since all Boeing transports since 1960 have model numbers 7-7.
