I am not currently discussing the point of the story, only the point of my question. I am still trying to determine what the point was; it seemed important while I was drunk but now that I am sobering up, I can't remember why I cared.

That's hardly the point, is it? The point of the story is, God destroyed the earth with a flood because, "every imagination of the thoughts of man's heart was only evil continually" Genesis 6: 5

"Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sews that will he also reap"...
