I had a 1994 Corolla sedan (I bought it when it was 10yrs old), covered in dents, hadnt been serviced for 4 years (50,000kms) and it ran PERFECT! That car was awesome. All I ever did was a wheel alignment (after one small accident) and tyres. I bought the car off the car rental company I was working for and it had the car's full history on file from when they got it at 25,000kms. The maintenance done on it was VERY patchy then as well.
Prior to the Corolla I had a 17yr old Corona (an early version of the Camry), which I had for 2 years and did only brake pads, tyres and cambelt (as it was overdue). This car ran like new, it was amazingly smooth.
Now I have a Toyota Supra but i've only just got it so not sure how trouble free that will be.
Cant beat the Toyotas!

Our 1990 Toyota Corolla (bought used) has been a very dependable little car. With gas, normal maintenance, and tires (American spelling, sorry) you should have great luck with a Toyota. The are good at fuel economy, and we've had no major issues (we had a rock crack the windshield, but that isn't Toyota's fault, that was the fault of the big rock on the street) and we use it regularly to drive in the city. We do not use it in the mountains near our home, but that is because it is a small car and we take our bigger van for longer trips.

We've had a Toyota for 6 months now, no problems. HA - better not have any problems from 6 months!
But apparently the Corolla is a beast of a car. I know Camry is #1 in sales, but from what I hear from Corolla owners its the best car. I think the same goes for the Civic, too. We owned one for 10 years - absolute iron horse - never gave us a minute of trouble. Only non-regular maintenace we did was replace the muffler cause it rusted out from not driving it regular. Was't a big problem, just made the car loud with it rusted.

Mine is 7 now - only ever had new tyres on it. Having said that, its very very low mileage (just 45K) as I use a company car the bulk of the time.
