Christians believe that their religion extends to when the earth was first created.
No they werent called Christians, that name wasnt applied till way after Christ. But the Old Testament extends to before the egyptians, back to Adam and Eve. The Old Testament people of Gods church were part of the same church that christians claim they aer a part of. Just because their name changed and the group splintered from each other at Christ doesnt mean they dont believe they arent part of one continual group that extends to the beginning of the earth.

I dont get why people ask questions like, dont you realize you just stole things from the people that were here before you or that questino about creationism that claims there was a diff creation story before christianity.

According to christianity, there werent people before their religion because their religion started at Adam and Eve. It didnt start at Christ.

I am asking this question according to christian beliefs. Saying that God doesnt exist or that christians are wrong doesnt really answer the question. I just see a lot of questions of people questioning christians on how they ripped off other peoples stories of people that came before them or that previous creation question and always wonder, how can they rip them off if they believe they were here since the beginning of the earths existance and there wasnt anyone before them?

how in the world did that even relate to this question?

that isnt true
Christianity did exist before Christ because they anticipated a messiah. Sacrificing animals was in anticipation and representative of the sacrifice of the blood of Christ. It is a continuous line of one religion. There was just a point in that religion where some didnt believe that Christ was the Messiah and some did, so the same religion split into 2 groups and one was called Christians.

I didnt make that assumption whatsoever. I specifically stated that this was according to christian beliefs.

Oh my gosh people you so arent getting my question.

I am not making an assumption that christianity is correct or it is what we must base history on.
Look at my question.
What I am wondering is why people ask christians these questions knowing that christians believe their faith extends to the begininng of the earth. According to christianity they were here first and other people broke off and created their own belief systems. So when you ask christians questions like why dont you realize you just ripped off this story or that story, the question makes no sense according to their beliefs.

Christianity was judaism and it broke off, but if you trace it back christians still claim to be part of the true original church of God that extends back into the Old Testament to Adam and Eve. Christians wouldnt consider their religion to have started at Christ.

Who made you lord of the message board?
My question is perfectly legit. If people choose not to take the question in the context I am asking and instead go off on things I never said or assumptions I never made then I cant stop them.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT OTHER PEOPLE DONT BELIEVE THEY WERE HERE FIRST PEOPLE. I AM SAYING THAT CHRISTIANS BELIEVE THEY WERE HERE FIRST AND THAT OTHER GROUPS BROKE OFF FROM THEM AFTER ADAM AND EVE SO ASKING CHRISTIANS A QUESTION LIKE DONT YOU REALIZE YOU RIPPED OFF A STORY FROM SOMEONE THAT EXISTED BEFORE THEIR RELIGION EXISTED MAKES NO SENSE BECAUSE ACCCORDING TO CHRISTIAN BELIEFS NO OTHER RELIGION OR STORIES EXISTED BEFORE THEIRS. ADAM AND EVE=FIRST HUMANS. THAT IS WHERE THEY BELIEVE THEIR CHURCH AND DOCTRINE STARTED, NOT AT THE BIRTH OF CHRIST LIKE ALL OF YOU ARE SAYING IT STARTED. TRY TO READ AND SEE THE QUESTION IN THE CONTEXT I AM ASKING IT IN PLEASE.

sorry, but everyone kept saying the same things and claiming I was making assumptions I never made. Can some people not pull themselves away from their own preconceptions long enough to read and answer a question in its context. You dont have to believe that christians were here first to answer this question.

2007-11-17 20:44:36 · update #7

I really dont see how any christian could answer a question like dont you realize you ripped something off of someone else, if they think they were here first.

2007-11-17 20:45:30 · update #8

I said from the very start of this question, if you actually bothered to read it, that christians believe....
If I had said well all people from the beginning were christian so...... then maybe some of you would have a point. But I didnt. I was always trying to put this question into the christian perspective when asked these kind of questions.
Some of you really have a chip on your shoulders when it comes to religion.

Wiccan
that just isnt true. Christians believe in the Old Testament. They believe the New Testament is just as much a record of their own religion. I have to wonder if some of you dont understand the beliefs of christians which is why you might be having a problem with the question.
Adam and Eve didnt call themselves christian. But since their time the people of God did anticipate a messiah. Christians believe these people, this religious group being taught about is the same church as theirs. They were just anticipating a messiah, while the group now known as christians already had the messiah come to them. If you were to ask a christian to trace their timeline of their religion it would trace back before Christ, thru the Old Testament to Adam and Eve. To them it is their church as well. It just wasnt called christianity.

Because all religions begin with some sort of creation story. By your logic, since the Christian church begins with the creation of the universe, then all religions must be equal in age, since they all began with the creation of the universe as well. The point is, when were certain religions being PRACTICED regularly, and yes, some belief systems were being practiced long before Christianity came about.

Actually you are wrong. Christianity is very much different than Judiasm and is very different than the patriarchs.
the bible teaches several different distinct dispensassions(spelling) also called ages. I can't remember all but at least three existed. the patriarcal age in which God spoke to the patriarchs or the heads of clans then the Mosaical age in which God used Moses to start writting things down and gave the Isrealites the law that became known as the Law of Moses which is where Juidism came from. Now the Christian or church age where the teachings of Christ rule suppossedly.

Are you not aware that Jesus was killed by the religious leaders of the day because they did not want a change in their law? Jesus taught salvation by grace but also gave certain steps to follow. The Jews and what was left of the Hebrew people did not like this because they liked their salvation by works.

The dicsiples were first called Christians at Antioch according to the book of Acts. So your statement that the name Christian was not applied till way after Christ is false according to scripture okay maybe it was meant as a derrogtory name, but the believers did not take it that way and latched on to it because it means little Christ or Christlike.Read Acts 11:19-26 That was not very long after Christ rose.

Please read the bible and do research before making comments like this. the only connection Christians can make to creation is they believe the God that created all according to the bible but his way of dealing with people has changed many times.

The law was for the Isrealites only and us Gentiles were not even considered human much less accepted in their religion.

People say those things, because they believe them. They don't have the Christian faith, so they interpret human and earth history from a different perspective.

They understand that you, and some other Christians date your God and faith to the beginning of all history, but they do not agree with your understanding of human history.

That is why they say those things, because, when they look at history, various religions, and the stories and rituals, they come to a different conclusion than you do.

Many religions have creation stories, etc that date them back, in their own understanding, to the beginning, just as Christianity does. Not everyone is right...so, not everyone will agree.

Because in the millions of years before Christ, the time in which humans developed from apes, there were a very large number of religions. Many still exist. many totally different from Christianity.

Take Hinduism - been around for 5000 years at least. Wicca - 3000 or so years.

Of course there were other people before Christians. First humans were pagans, the first monotheistic religion was that of the Hebrews, and still is. Christianity in it's present form is from the 3rd century A.D. from the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine, who reshaped Christianity to make it suitable as the religion of an empire.
These changes included introducing the cross as the symbol of That religion, converting the status of Jesus to Godhood, from that of a Messiah ( a human) and later into that of the trinity.

Christ.... Christianity.... Christ... Christianity..

Do you see the connection.

Before Christ, there was no CHRISTianity.

Even Christ wasn't a Christian. He was a Jew.

Not to mention that not every religion believes in the "Adam and Eve" fairytale.

Its called research. You should try it. I see you already have the internet.

First you need to stop using a Christian Book called the Bible to try to debunk Christian history.
Even the Quran (if I remember right) states God created man and woman, heaven and hell, and acknowledges the Arch Angels.
But I'm sure it does not go on to teach that they were Christians. That's an interpretation of man.

A bit off, it started with Abraham, somewhere in between Adam/Eve and Abraham everything was completely forgotten.

Read up on Genesis and think about where Cain got a wife. You can see that evolution was going on, yet Adam and Eve were perfect humans. So thus we can be said to be mixed with Animal and Human-prime DNA.
