I'll stick with the concept of Satan evolved from an angel that enlightened humans by trials and tribulation to the rebellious, master of evil that we know today. This view makes reading the book of Job a lot more understandable in the contest of the much later books, i.e. anything after the Talmud.

There is no biblical evidence Satan ever rebelled as he is popularly portrayed, but there is evidence angels rebelled against God by having sex with women. According to 1 Enoch, these angels had a leader, but he is not Satan.

Before earth was organized, there was a spiritual (testimonial) war in heaven. 2/3 of the angels agreed to get mortal bodies, come to earth and have free agency to choose weather or not to obey the word of God (i.e. follow God's plan which was carried out by Jesus). The other 1/3 of the angels chose to follow Lucifer's plan for everyone to get mortal bodies and be forced to obey the word of God. Lucifer and that 1/3 were then cast into outer darkness and were not permitted to recieve mortal bodies. the 2/3rds that chose to obey God's plan of Salvation is everyone on earth today and we have the choice to obey God, or be influenced by Satan. The decisions we make on this earth will determine what happens to us after we die (and no, there's no such thing as hell, so don't be dramatic)

According to Christian Mythology, they were cast into hell after the creation of Earth, which would place them well after the War in Heaven in which Lucifer was cast out.
