And what about the Hail Mary?
I know you can say it, but will it mean anything to you?

If you're not catholic, why on earth would you want to waste your time on something as frivolous as a rosary prayer?

Many non-catholics (and some Catholics) misunderstand the rosary.

The rosary is an auditory mantra meant to give your mind something to focus on as you meditate. The words themselves are not the point so much as the meditation on the mysteries. The mysteries are the point.

People who think that catholics are just repeating a prayer over and over are missing the point of meditation. There are other mantras (visual one's like the monstrance used to hold the blessed sacrament) and certainly other verbal ones in eastern religions.

If you are interested in meditating on the deep mysteries of the Christian faith, then the rosary may help you. It has helped millions. Trust me, if you get into the spirit of it, you will understand the significance. It is a very powerful spiritual aid.

Consider that some of the best theologians agree that if we are ever to actual come to know God, and really see if and know him, he must, to our senses appear to be a mystery. God is transcendent to our senses. If encountering these mysteries appeals to you, I suggest you give the rosary a try.

But remember your own personal experience in contemplating the mysteries of the rosary are the key. Your goal is to be able to say the words without focusing on them while your spirit contemplates the mysteries. These are VERY deep waters, not the shallow recitation of chants that many people misunderstand it to be.

p.s. I didn't answer your ain question!. Yes you can if you live in a free country. But remember that there are places in the world where the expression of Christian beliefs is a punishable crime. So keep those poor folks in mind.

I am NOT catholic and I can recite the rosary in my sleep. I worked for a nunnery and they said it every morning. I am glad however that I finally got the words straight. I used to think they were saying " Hail Mary, full of Grace. Blessed are you among women, and Blessed is the fruit of the loom Jesus." I couldn't figure out why they kept talking about Jesus undergarments?!?

I know the Hail Mary, don't recite it because it doesn't mean anything to me.

Yes. You're not going to get killed or arrested for saying the rosary. No harm will be done to you.

If anything, it might bring you positive happenings in your life; you just don't know it, but it might be a lucky charm to you because reciting a rosary is a form of a positive prayer in Catholicism.

Yes. Any Christian can pray the rosary.

In regards to the 'Hail Mary" prayer:

"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you" (Luke 1:28)

"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb" (Luke 1:42).

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

+ With love in Christ.

I guess you could do.

But you should also know that reciting prayers over over are not heard by God.

Matthew 6:7 says this - ''But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words.''

They imagine they will be heard , but they will not.
