How can the position that I was assured of be given to someone else in Retail & Services?

I had applied for a position a month-and-a-half ago, had discussed a plan with my managers, and was assured of this position, after one month of training. However, my official job title is not what i applied for; It is supposed to be a temporary position. Recently, I was informed that the position that i want, applied for, and discussed with my managers was internally available through the company (unknownst to me; I believe my managers should have informed me), and the position had been filled, by someone else. Now, I feel I have lost the opportunity for this position for at least a year, and i'm not willing to stay with the company that long, because the position I want pays twice as much as I am currently making. So, I am trying my options to aquire this position. I would really appreciate any response, for or against, and any suggestions.

They are free to choose who they want and you may not ever get the job. I would start looking unless they make some reasonable other offer.
