Normally, calcium supplements should be taken at 500 three times a day for a total of 1500 mgm. However, this dosage is usually indicated for osteosporosis which is common among post menopausal women.

The reference range of serum calcium levels is 8.7-10.4 mg/dL, with somewhat higher levels present in children.

Hypercalcemia can have side effects such as nausea; vomiting; alterations in mental status; abdominal or flank pain due to renal calculi or kidney stone; Constipation; lethargy; depression; weakness and vague muscle/ joint aches associated with parathyroidism; polyuria; and headaches.

Severe elevations in calcium levels may cause coma.
Elderly patients are more likely to be symptomatic from moderate elevations of calcium levels. You need Vit D; phosphorus and magnesium for proper calcium absorption.

Folic Acid should be taken at 0.5- 1 mgm daily. for iron or folic acid deficiency anemia. However, folic acid is contraindicated if have any other health problems, such as high blood pressure or heart or blood vessel disease, It would interfere with the blood thinners that your doctor might put you on.

Folic acid is a vitamin used as a supplement for many health conditions including: AIDS, anemia, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), cancer prevention and treatment, osteoporosis, preventing birth defects, periodontal (gum) disease, depression, heart disease, and ulcerative colitis.

It is also taken when there is a loss of Folic Acid from the body caused from taking birth control pills or anticonvulsants medicine. Talk with your caregiver about how much Folic Acid you should take. The amount depends on the strength of the medicine and the reason you are taking Folic Acid.

If you are using this medicine without instructions from your caregiver, follow the directions on the medicine bottle. Do not take more medicine or take it more often than the directions tell you to High doses of Folic Acid may cause upset stomach, loss of appetite (hunger) and gas and bloating and constipation. Too much iron can also cause hemochromatosis or Iron Overload. The extra iron stored in the liver, heart and pancreas can cause organ damage and failure.
.

Another final note of warning, our body needs a pyramid balance between iron, copper and zinc. An overload of one would cause a depletion of the other two causing big problems.

For the above reasons, it's impt that you should be seen by the doctor and appropriate bloodwork done to determine if you are deficient in these minerals before taking them. .

your dr. would probably be able to tell you best b/c he is the one who can do blood test to see what you may need the most but i know who wants to go sit at the dr. for 6 hours just to find out so the best idea would be to take a multi-vitamin it has everything you need! i take them they are very cheap at any drug store or grocery store i think theyre cheaper at walmart not sure but mine are in a blue bottle with like 150 pills. or you can get men or womens daily vitamins. but if your vit. dont come with at least 500mg of vitamin c then make sure you buy some they also come in a halls cough drop like bag but theyre nothing like cough drops they have fruit flavors and theyre delicious i could eat them all day they build your immune system and help fight off illnesses they are wonderful ! and especially for this time of year every1 gets sick!
