I live in Alaska, and just kept assuming I should face east. I checked a globe, however, and I think that the closest way to get to Jerusalem from Anchorage would be by going north. I remember from my non-Euclidean geometry class, that the shortest distance between any two points on a sphere is along the great circle. (I keep meaning to ask the Chabad rabbi, but he is difficult to reach.)

I can only urge you to follow Cathy's suggestion and go to www.askmoses.com

And ignore all those answers up there that have nothing to do with anything, hah.

Peace

You're exactly right. The geodesic which runs from Alaska to Jerusalem would be almost exactly due north! Heh, cool point.

However, anonymoose's answer made me realize, the straight line approach would be to look approx due North, about 30 degrees below the horizon.

You could always just ask at http://www.askmoses.com/ .

It's a Chabad affiliated site, and they have a great "Ask a Rabbi" chat feature. They'll be able to help you out.

Are you serius?? I mean maybe this is kind of old fashion but I was taught that God was everywhere, wo I think that you might as well be facing Neptune while you are praying and He will listen to your plea as good as if you were facing the Pope himself.

If you want to follow after the Christ...... Pray as he prayed....

with his eyes wide open looking straightway into the heaven....

Remember this: There shall be no stone left unturned....

In other words.... Do not honor the stones..... they shall all fall.

Luke 21:6
As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

I say, look to heaven and use your eyes to see.....

Sorry, dear one, but nobody worships Jerusalem. Jews worship God. Christians worship God.

Only Muslims bow down to Mecca and worship whatever it is they worship.

God bless!
