How can you tell the difference between a guy who is interested in you or a guy who is just being nice? A guy I work with seems to be really shy. When walking towards one another he will look at me but when I look at him he will quickly look somewhere else or down at the floor. He always says hi and smiles kind of awkwardly but then runs off again.

If he is shy and "running away" sounds like he has kind of a crush on you. Guys also have a thing about looking people in the eye, more so than girls. It bothers them, like a cat they think you can steal their soul or something>>>LOL just kidding....
Sounds like the only way to know for sure is to create a reason to talk to him and just see how it goes. If he is receptive but shy, create another opportunity. Women are strong and powerful so take matters in your own hands.

There's no way to give you a definite answer as to whether or not he likes you. Sometimes a neurotic guy will act as if he isn't interested at all around a chick he likes because he's intimidated, and that's what he's naturally inclined to do.

In another case, the guy might be unsure. Worst case scenario, he might sense your interest and be slightly uncomfortable about it due to his own confusion or lack of interest.

Your best point of reference is how he acts towards other people. Discreetly observe how he talks to other women and men, and compare his mannerisms around them to those of when he's around you. This will give you a much better idea of what he wants to put out there.

I guess he loves you, but he is unable to express it. However, this is not a sure sign.
