My poodle mix has a scabby looking bump on her head. I treat her with frontline to prevent fleas. Can flea's get under the skin and cause some sort of accumulated area of infestation??

It doesn't sound like fleas, it may be a cyst. Keep it clean and if you're not sure,call your vet to see if she needs to be seen. All the best;~)

No, fleas do NOT burrow under the skin.
Your dog could be allergic to fleas - this can cause scabs on the skin. If that is the case, just Frontline will not be enough because it doesn't kill flea eggs and larvae - Frontline Plus does, but only the ones on the animal, not the ones around the house. You may need to get Frontline Plus, and treat the house.
Of course if it's just one scab and no others appear, it could just be a bump, totally un-flea related!

I've had poodles since 1990 & found they tend to get ingrown hairs which can result in little rough bumps or cysts. Keep an eye on it & if it changes, have the vet check it out. Otherwise, as long as there is no infection, just watch it. Also, when you have her groomed, be sure to point it out so the groomer doesn't nick it.

yes may have bumped head, no not built up infestation...any hair loss?under skin infection leans towards mange. I had a dog get mange out of the blue, and i was tipped off by small scabs on his head..couldnt see them just feel. Took him to vet and it was mange, i would do the same.....it is contagious between animals, not so much with humans tho it will spread . if it goes away shortly probably nothing major, keep eye on i tho.

I would take him to the vet.
Also, Frontline/Advantage/etc does not prevent fleas. It kills them AFTER the flea has bitten your dog. By the time the flea is dead, it will have probably bitten your dog already.

I doubt fleas. He could have bumped his head. Watch if the swelling gets bigger. If it does, see a vet. If it goes down, he'll be fine.

it could also be ringworm a fungus, which is higly contagious. take your dog to the vet and have her checked out. if you have a black light you can use it on her in the dark and if the scab glows than there a chance it could be ringworm
