With the impact of a vehicle it causes the internal organs to explode at times, if this happens it will cause the deer to blote up with gases. You need to at least gut the deer and bleed it out, as long as you keep the meat cooled down it will be fine, but if you wait too long to get the insides out, it will spoil your meat. Glad to see you're ok, Happy Eatting.

First off I've seen what a deer can do to your vehicle so I'm glad everything worked out nicely. You need the gut the deer as soon as possible. Like others have said, because of the impact, internal bleeding is extremely likely and if the stomach or any other internal organs break, your meat will quickly be spoiled. My ex and his father are both avid hunters, his dad is a cop so we would get all of the game hit in the town and surrounding area. He would gut the deer that day/night, bury the contents, then string the deer from a tree. (That way the animals couldn't feast on the deer in the meantime. Lets just say its the best solution they came up with.) I don't know how long the meat will keep if you string it up since the weather has been so finicky this year but usually around this time the elements act like a perfect refrigerator/freezer.
The first year I started dating this guy, I went over for Thanksgiving only to look out the kitchen window at two deer hung from a tree that had been hit the day before. They were completely split open, end to end, no warning. That was my intro to hunting. Happy Thanksgiving everyone lol!
**Talked with my ex... if the weather is cold, the deer can sit for a couple of days without being gutted but the meat inside the immediate area will most likely spoil. Even if it doesn't, its not the best idea to eat that after its been sitting there. The good news is that there will still be plenty of meat that won't spoil. Enjoy!

Boker is right. I too am glad you wern't hurt and hopefully your truck isn't damaged too badly. The only thing you even need to be concerned with is temperature like Boker said. The Deer surely died from internal injuries so it's best you get to field dressing ASAP tomorrow. Don't want any busted urine sac's spoiling any venison if it can be helped.....

As long as the temperature isn't too warm you'll be fine for tomorrow afternoon. If it gets above 60 you better get to it much sooner.

That depends on whether it is a male= Buck or female=Doe, because Doe's take longer to undress than to dress.*
