I have not been in the military, my dad was a creer Marine though and so I have known many of them. He was a DI at parris Island and I gaurantee he was tough on candidates as he called them. They did not have the right to be called Marines yet. They had to earn it.
He told me that it was his duty to make it hard. If you are in combat you want to know the guy at your back is able to handle the situation.
As I said, I have known many Marines and I know a couple who have served in other branches and switched to Marines. They all say the same thing, the Corps is tougher. I currently work with someone who was Army for 4 yr. Got out and decided to join the Corps. a year later. He says the Army got him in the best shape (physical and maturity ) of his life. Then he joined the Corps. He says that was a whole new life and he considers it as the best thing he ever did.
Good luck.

In order to a marine you have to make it through boot camp. Boot camp will be really tough. All DIs are going to be tough, but some are more lenient than others. You will have to work harder than you ever have and get used to not really having any freedom. Only one hour of free time a day- if no one messes up and you get it taken away. I havent been to boot camp but my bf is in Parris Island for boot right now. He writes me a few times a week and tells me about it. If you want to know more feel free to email or message me ! Hope this helped! =)

There are several videos that are great.

"Making Marines." This is a three-hour documentary on boot camp at Parris Island, SC, filmed during the summer of 2000. It shows a realistic take on boot camp for male and female recruits, and can be found on Amazon.com. Also, they show this on the Discovery Times Channel, and sometimes the Military Channel. It's a well done documentary.

"Ears Open. Eyeballs Click." This is a documentary made by a local man who works part-time on the base at MCRD San Diego as the barber. He had permission to film his documentary and worked with the DI's and the Chain of Command at the base to give a very gritty look at USMC boot. My son found this documentary to be very realistic, although they didn't show "everything"... and it captures the "feel" of bootcamp pretty well. This one is more difficult to find, but an internet search should pick it up for you. When I ordered my copy, I had to get it from the film maker.

Recruiters also have several DVD's available for viewing. If you're a junior in High School, it wouldn't hurt to start talking to a recruiter, so you can figure out when you should enlist, what career field you will choose, whether you will need to go in via the delayed entry program before your senior year (to secure a spot in technical school) and what to expect in boot.

Good Luck to you! Just focus on school, endurance training (more than weight lifting, you'll need upper body strength but not bulk!) and getting mentally strong. The majority of boot is mental rather than physical... getting to the point you can do things you know you have to do, even when your body is worn out.

Every recruits experience is unique. No matter who you are or what you have experienced before the Corps, nothing can prepare you for what you are about to experience. I know it sounds like a commercial, but you will never be the same after boot camp. It's almost impossible to explain. It's an understatment, but there's lots of pt(physical training). There are classes about Marine Corps training(just wait til week 5).
If you are east of the mississippi river as a man, you will go to Camp Lejune. If you are west of the river, you will go to MCRD San Diego. If you are a woman anywhere, you will go to Camp Lejune(get ready for sand fleas). I remember when I graduated. My D.I.'s(Drill Instructor)told us we would cry. I didn't, but I felt the greatest feeling I had ever felt. I knew at that moment that I had accomplished the greatest achievement I would ever accomplish in my life. I could go on for hours, but here's one bit of advice. DO NOT get a Marine Corps tattoo before you go to boot camp!

I've never been through the marine boot camp, the Army boot camp (basic) is a cake walk, I'm sure jarification is a breeze too, enlist and find out for yourself.

what ittakes to become a marine.Quick answer is sign the contract.Once you make it to boot camp you are not leaving without becoming a marine.Unless you do something completely stupit like try to kill someone.I've seen people in the mrp platoons that had been there for a whole year.once you get off that bus their is no turning back

the only way to do that would be to to unenlist from the Marines and than rejoin the Navy, so the same possibility of being 'stuck with another job on ship' exists. I'd just train like hell to get ready for SEAL training if that's what you want. don't go the long way around with the Marines.

Yes, the SEALS killed OBL and they are totally cool, et cetera. No, that does not mean they are interested in making an exception to the normal rules for you. GI Jane was fiction.
