I applied for a district management position for a Agriculture/Nursery company. They called me in for a interview, and they read my Resume beforehand. They knew I did not have a BA in Agri- business, and that I had only an AA in Agriculture and 2 CP's in Nursery Operations+Landscape matience.

Once I drive the 45 minutes to be interviewed I wait for over 30 minutes to be seen. The Lady takes to me her office, and the questions begin. She starts telling me i'm not qualified for the position because I do not have a BA in Agriculture or Business. Then pretty much suggests I could take a lower paying position that I was not interested in the least bit. She was quite rude, and I was really pissed off.

I tell her that I'm simply not interested, and furthermore I'm very upset that she even called me if she was not interested in considering me for that position.Let me make it clear that she knew my background before coming into her office. She called me personally and asked my background

So why did she bother to call me if she wasn't willing to consider me?

Also the company I applied for does not require a BA in Agri Business or even Business. No offense but someone with a Business degree would not be able to do this job because they need extensive plant ID skills, and would need at the very least basic Horticulture experience.

Because she was Obviously HOPING you would taking that lower paying Position- because no on ELSE seems to want it (& it's pretty OBVIOUS- Why!). Chalk it up to "experience"- & forget about it. You've wasted enough time on it. :)

You missed the point, the fact that you were there means you were considered. They sometimes are willing to over look the qualifications if the person can prove to them they are otherwise qualified. You blew it, think before you leap next time and give them credit for knowing how to choose the right people. In your case I'd say they were right. You must have shown them something before you crashed and burned in the interview, build on that the next time.

As a former employer, I would guess that she liked what she saw in your resume, and while you weren't qualified for the job you applied for, she thought she might try to get you on board with the company so that you might become qualified later on down the road, as well as being a good worker in the mean time.

Sometimes, in order for a manager to make a case of hiring another person, they have to prove to the higher ups that they have interviewed a certain number of people.

So, she might have known full well that she was not going to hire you but offered you the lesser job as a compensation for your pain and suffering.

Any way, that's how it works sometimes (not fair, but it is reality in the hiring world)

So you applied for a position you were not qualified for, they still consider you for another position, instead of throwing out your resume, and you get mad?
