My GTA:SA keep pausing while I'm playing it saying "error reading GTA San Andreas disc". The disk is clean with no major scratches, and it doesnt do it to any other game.

Some PS2 are having problems with dual layer DVDs. GTA SA is one of the first games, which use those DVDs. May be your PS2 is one of those? Contact Sony and tell them your model number (on the back of PS2).

I have two questions to ask.

1) Is this copy of GTA:SA a backup burned onto DVD?

If so, then your PS2 requires a certain chip that allows for that sort of thing. The mod chip is usually sold in certain stores. However, I must warn you that in this case, the game could be an illegal copy. And Mod chips are harmful to install.

2) What conditions was the disc exposed to?

I know for a fact that exposing most computer parts to extreme temperatures, magnetic energy sources, and certain liquids. I don't remember what liquids effect DVD discs, but I know for a fact that extreme temperatures mess things up for them. Especially extreme heat. Maybe you loaned it to a friend and he played it on an overheated PS2.

If none of the above have happened, then the disc is probably defective and needs to be replaced.

Same happpens with my GTA Vice City. But mine is a backed up copy. It happens only with a few dvds. Tis a problem with the disc (maynot be the scratches and all), maybe it is not written properly. if it is an original disc... then try getting ur laser/lens cleaned. it does wonders to your system

If your not playing it on a slim PS2 the system itself might have a disk read error, does it do the same for other games?
