First, you have to pass the MEPES test-both academic and the physical. At the time you answer that you have had ACL surgery they will most likely kick you out of line. You may be required to get an orthopedic surgon (the governments doctor of choice--not yours) to give you a complete ortho physical and clear you for a WAIVER. Due to the extensive training and field operations, only the BEST QUALIFIED personnel are choosen for Ranger School. Should you get into the Army you would have to be better physically, mentally and emotionally that others in your unit--because of your ACL repair. The special operations units require you to be as perfect physically as you can due to the hardness of the programs. In my youth I was Marine Corps Recon and cross trained and qualified Army Ranger/Pathfinder.

Dang that suxs..umm it depends on how it effects you but I don't think you can. I wanted to be an army ranger too but I am red/green colorblind so I can still get my ranger tab but can't be in the actual ranger regiment. The Medical screening is crazy at MEPs. I would call a recruiter and just say you needed a question answered...but don't let them sign you up for something you don't want!

Only a doctor can answer this question who is familure with the training required to be a ranger. First step is to talk to your recruiter, if he hasn't delt witht his situation before I have without a doubt someone in his chain of command has. You can get a guarenteed slot to be a ranger in your enlistment (as long as you pass the school) and they cant give you that guarentee if you are medicaly unfit for the position. So as stated above, talk to your recruiter.

Surgical correction of the ACL which is symptomatic or unstable is disqualifying for entry into the armed forces, period! This also corresponds to the requirements for free-fall parachute training. Symptomatic means you have pain or swelling in the knee joint after the surgery.

First off it is going to be extremely difficult to enlist with screws in your knees unless they give you a medical evaluation to determine if it is going to cause any serious problems but let your recruiter handle that. If you prove you can pass the physical requirments of ranger school they might let you in but medical evaluations concerning screws in your knees will be very tricky.

Good, tough question. I hope someone can help. I have an extensive military background...you'll need a pro for this one. Best thing, call a recruiter!! Tell them exactly what you have and they'll be able to tell you.
Please know, they'll try to talk you into something else....but hold your ground.
Also, you don't "join" the Rangers....you "earn" it once in.

First you will have to go through basic training and Infantry training if you make it thru that you will have to get a physical before Ranger school to see if you are physically able to attend its up to the docs at that point.

call the ranger recruitment headquarters and ask them they usually have a list of injuries they allow and don't allow or they may tell you they can make an exception if you do this or that they may even send you a free hat or something
