With the commandment "thou shalt not kill," it would imply that we should not play God. I have heard He does not like that.

In that sense, is it safe to say, "thou shalt not prolong life?" I mean, in this aspect, we continue to play God.

Does this mean I should let my stomach ulcer eat my entire intestinal lining at a slow and painful pace, in order to ensure I am following what God says or implies? I mean, I have already given up sex with my girlfriend for the Big Guy, so I should probably give up modern medicine too, then... right?

Much love,
Cas

Should I wait for the next coming of Christ before I consider any chance of healing? I don't know if I can go without milk for that long. But I will try, to prove my faith.

The proper translation of the original texts of the word "kill" is actually "murder." The word "kill" is a different word.

The god of the Bible does not have a problem with killing. He did plenty of it himself, and he demanded that his creations kill animals in sacrifice to him.

Also, the Bible never gives any indication that we should or should not prolong life wherever possible, though it does say that your body is your temple, so you ought treat it as such.

Modern medicine is the product of ever-increasing knowledge on how our bodies function and how to treat systemic disorders.
It evolved from primitive methods and improved as time has passed.
The bible has not evolved or changed in thousands of years because no one is supposed to question it. If we do not ask questions, we learn nothing.
Believe me, if a person 2000 years ago was suffering from an ulcer and there were medications back then to help relieve the pain or discomfort, they would certainly use it!

No modern medicine believes that whether true or false if something comforts or lessens stress it is useful as a healing tool. Even placebos work for some . But this is put into a proper perspective .

Nowhere in Christianity does it say to be an idiot. Of course you should seek medical treatment. Thou shall not kill is not the actual phrase used. It is better translated as thou shall not murder. Murder implies intent and purpose as well as a premeditation. You are adding the idea that it is playing God when that is not mentioned anywhere in the phrasing.

even though a Christian will tell you God gave us the means to prolong life with modern tech and thus we can take advantage of it,

Scripture says to put all your faith in God, and if you do you will be taken care of, for by God all things are possible. It also says to not have cares for this world for they are only temporary, and if we only knew what the lowest levels of heaven offered we would kill ourselves to get there, according to John, SO the question is

"IF ANY CHRISTIAN TRULY BELIEVED IN GOD WHY WOULD HE OR SHE NOT BE WILLING TO DIE AND NOT CARE FOR MODERN MEDICINES AND MEDICAL PROCEDURES ? " of course if they believed their own bible
