I wanna buy my wife a pistol before I deploy probably a Glock 45. What do you think would be the best choice for her?

Believe me she will be properly trained and very proficient with this gun.

Why not a Desert Eagle .44 Magnum? Or maybe a Garwood .30 belt-fed Minigun?

Unless she already has a preference of her own, then any weapon you select for her will be useless. A high possibility that she'll be reluctant to use it when necessary could cost her life, and using it out of stress or fear when not justified could find her in prison when you get back home.

SHE is the one who will have to use it, so SHE should be the one to decide what fits her best. And if she chooses none of the above, nothing you get for her is going to be any good.

A Glock is a good weapon. I would wonder though about a .45 caliber weapon unless she shoots a lot and likes something that big. I'd think something in the Glock .40 series. A model 23 is a good size to handle. There is, I believe, a size frame larger than that one and one smaller. They're tough pieces, perform well when not cleaned regularly, etc.

A a Glock 45 is alot of gun. Maybe you should go to the range and see what she is comfortable with. I like my 9mm because of the 16+1 rounds I can get off. Let her choose.

definatly the Springfield Armory XD 45, it has the same safeties as the colt 9/11, it is tough as hell, inexpensive, can hold 13 rounds in the mag, and was gun and ammos 2006 gun of the year. You will be hooked when you see what you are getting for the money, the gun comes in lots of styles and sizes.

Depends on her. If she is a small handed female, you may want to try something like a Beretta 9mm, or Taurus 9mm. But before you present her with the handgun, please have her attend a hand gun safety course. You might actually want to take her to a shooting range that has different makes and models she can try out to see what she feels more comfortable with. BUT PLEASE do not give her a gun with no training, what good is it if she can't use it and the bad guy takes it away from her. There have been many shooting and robbery victims, that have fallen victim to their own guns.

One that she is comfortable with and fits her hand.

I will say the almost stereotypical - a 45 may not be the best caliber for a woman or a man of smaller stature for that matter. :)
This certainly depends, but the kick from larger calibers (depending on how well the particular gun is designed to absorb recoil) can be too much.

Sorry buddy, but you may not like my answer. I'd get her a .38 S&W Model 10 Revolver and load it with Glaser safety slugs. Its the best weapon for home defense for small framed people. No clips, no safety's, small grips and just point and pull the trigger and in the heat and stress of combat thats just about all a novice can handle, just pointing and pulling the trigger.

Take her with you to hold and work the gun mechanisms. Many women can not use a slide-load. Also make sure she gets into a class on the proper care and usage of a weapon.

Also make sure she gets into a class on the proper care and usage of a weapon.!!!!

Make sure she is of a mind-set to understand that the weapon is for one thing....to kill with and has no fear of protecting her life..

As a farm wife, my 1917 Colt 45 is perfect because I have big hands.

An H&K SOCOM .45. Its used by the army and Navy seals as a primary offensive weapon (same class as M4 and M16's). To me its more like a suped-up pistol. That'd stop anything.

ok at first i thought a .45 would be insane, but if she is proficient, she should have one already. God bless our precious second amendment and thank you for your service. I do think Glocks are over rated....I'm a SIG man!
