Get a fitness ball, they are about 30 inches or so in circumference and sit on it. Now slowly roll the ball forward and as you do your back will make full contact and the pressure will give you full back support on the lower vertebrae of the back allowing you to do modified crunches. Work into this slowly but I would not recommend doing any side bends to work the obliques if you are having disk shrinkage problems. Reduce your carbs, drink plenty of water which will give your stomach that full feeling and eat small meals 5-6 times a day and you will keep your metabolism burning .............. good luck with your program!

I would talk to your physical therapist first for suggestions on exercise. If you don't have one, go to your local library and see what books/videos they have on chair exercises(physically handicapped, elderly) that you could adapt for your own needs. I work with the elderly and find just about most of the common exercises can be adapted in some way. Look for some of the exercises that require weights and use a rolled up dish towel instead. Good Luck and take it easy. Recovery is always slow and steady....go too fast and you might go into an even worse condition. Don't forget those glasses of water! Guard Dog

What top are you? once you're a sprint taller then this could clarify why you look narrow. or you will desire to easily have greater muscular tissues than fat, as muscle weighs greater. edit- isn't 5'8" greater like 176 cm? So that are you 5'8" or 162cm? edit - heavily, there is particularly a great distinction, 162cm is purely 5'3" which i've got self assurance is your certainly top, is 5'8" is quite tall for a woman your age. So if that's your certainly top, then you definately're somewhat obese, whether that's probable purely doggy fat.

Dr. Kimura has my vote, Swimming is practically the best way to excercise almost every muscle in your body without half killing you in the process. Plus the water is so fun. Hope you get rid of the weight, good for you! Wishing you the best of luck! Dash

Grab a sauna suit.
Walk a little bit (suit cannot be worn for long periods of time obviously).
The increased heat will help burn calories faster.
Or go swimming.
Reduced weight in the water makes exercising easier

Swimming is a wonderful exercise for people who have difficulties with regular exercise.
See where you can find a year round pool, and do some laps.

Either do swimming or you can exercise in the pool. Both are excellent for people with back problems.

Get your doctor to give you a referral for physical therapy. They can teach you how to exercise without hurting yourself.
