St Lucy of Syracuse was a martyr and is the patron saint of blindness and her feast day, December 13, fell on the longest night of the year before the Julian calendar was reformed.
She converted to Christianity and when her nurse reported to her pagan bridegroom that Lucy had found a ''richer Bridegroom'', he denounced her. She was sentenced to be defiled in a brothel. When the guards came to take her away, she was so filled with the Holy Spirit that she was too heavy to be moved. When her throat was cut, she continued to prophesy against her persecutors and she could continue to see miraculously even after her eyes had been gouged out. She has also become the patron saint of eyes because of this legend.

All that is really known for certain is that she was a martyr in Syracuse in Diocletian's persecutions of A.D. 304. Her veneration spread to Rome, so that by the 6th century the whole Church recognized her courage in defense of the faith.
After that much of it is just legend.
Other info: She is the patron saint of blindness
her feast day is December 13

Saint Lucie was sentenced to death as a martyr. However the story goes that she had beautiful eyes and one of her persecutors was really attracted to her eyes. Before she was to be burned at the stake, she asked for a small plate to be brought to her. When she got the plate, she pulled out her own eyes and asked that they be given to that man.
What is truth and what is legend, we will never know.
The name Lucie is from the Latin word "lumen" for "light".

She was forced to marry but she wanted to devote her life to Christ, so she gave her eyeballs to her suitor--so he would not desire her anymore.
