It could be several things. I know that the weather does affect some egg laying chickens, the availability of a handsome rooster perks up any lady chicken, sometimes it is the type of feed. Do you have a Feed Store nearby? How about a Farm Vet? Here is the website for the Lehman's catalog(out in Amish country)...perhaps they can help you out or suggest something that may help: www.lehmans.com

Cold never makes a great weather for egg-laying. I know of experience. A average temperature with healthy scraps and grains should get your chickens laying dozens!

Hope your chickens lay lots of eggs!!

I had a little chicken and he wouldn't lay an egg
so I rubbed hot water up and down his leg
the little chicken hollered the little chicken begged
but the little chicken layed a hard boiled egg.

It is a temperature thing they have to be warm. They lay eggs to have chicks, we steal them to eat them, The eggs have to be kept warm to hatch and a chickens body knows when it is too cold

It is the time of year. Chickens won't lay when it gets too cold at night. Unless they are kept in a temperature controlled environment, they will stop laying until spring.

Both. They need 12 hour cycles of light and dark and they need to be warm. Set up heat lamps around their nesting boxes, and put flourescent lights on timers - on 12 hours and off 12 hours.
