Christmas isn't the celebration of Jesus' birthday. It's the celebration of the Yule, with Jesus' birthday tacked on as an afterthought.

RIGHT ON!

I worked at a major dept store last "holiday season." Some morning I reported to work @ 5 am, and there were already dorks beating down the door to get the good stuff before anyone else. Greedfest! Some nights I didn't go home until midnight because shoppers had destroyed our store.

I was never so disgusted with Christmas in my whole life--this is NOT the meaning of Christmas!!!

If you want to celebrate Christmas, go down to your local soup kitchen (take some food to donate) and serve people who have no presents to open and no food to eat--I don't care if they are drunks or not, and neither would Jesus!

Christmas is a holiday celebrating capitalism. People may put on their nice new clothes and go to church, but there is little else about the holiday that has a religious association.
I love family get togethers, but I dislike Christmas immensely. Most of the money spent on gifts is wasted. Keep a list of everything you buy for people, then go looking for it a month later. Most of it is either still in the box or has been discarded because it was unneeded/unwanted.

absolutely nowhere. I'm sure some Pagan's here could probably give some insight, however. As I remember it, Jesus wasn't born in December. There was a Pagan festival that was hugely popular at the time Christianity was spreading. The church had the celebration of Christ's birth coincide with the festival in order to Christianize it.....hence the gift giving tradition, among others.

Jesus didn't say we were to celebrate his birthday at all, but we should remember his death till he comes back, and that is to be included in your worship service every first day of the week, if you add his birthday to the worship service, you are changing what he said you should do in the worship service, which makes it wrong and not pleasing to God.

He didn't. The whole thing came from the part about the gifts presented to Him, and from there became a marketing and spiritual nightmare at the same time. Nothing in scripture even hints that His people should do such things. But, silly human "traditions". Gotta love 'em, I guess.

Christ was not born on Dec 25. This date was set by man. He was most likely born mid late Oct time frame.

The events of todays Christmas unfortunately represents little meaning towards Christ. Things like Santa Claus, excessive presents and materialism have nothing to do w./ Christ nor is any of this even in the bible.

a lot of human beings take the assumption of present giving at Christmas decrease back to the scripture in Matthew 2:10-11 which talks with regard to the Magi (sensible men) giving presents to Jesus at his domicile: "while they observed the celeb, they have been crammed with excitement!
