How else is it possible to deny our impact on the planet?

No, its the big corporate interests (like the neo-cons and George W) that want to deny global warming. These big corporate interests have misled many religious people though. They run for office proclaiming things that religious people like for example "I am against abortion" "I am a Christian too", so the religious people vote for them. Then, when they get into office, they use their power to do unchristian things like wage war in a place that should be none of our business, increase goverment pork and corporate welfare, allow increased pollution, and wreck the economy so more people end up getting abortions due to having no job to support a child. I think the next election cycle the "Christian right" will abandon the Republicans, and we will see much needed balance come to our country.

I don't disbelieve global warming is occuring since I am a scientist myself and have been studying it for 20 years.
However, there are also at least two places in two books considered holy which contain phrases relevant to the present climate crisis.
The first is in some versions of the bible; found in the "book of revelation" chapter 11 verse 18 last line,
"I (God) will pour out my wrath on those who would destroy the earth".
I find this especially interesting since when this was written the idea of people destroying the earth would have been foreign - we simply didn't have the ability then. Although the bible has been manipulated to the point of causing it to be a very confusing compilation, those who have manipulated it did so to passages which they understood, for purposes of control and gain. This would have been a passage they left alone, since at the time they wouldn't have understood it. Now it seems clear.
The other holy book is the Quran. Sura 44 is entitled "Smoke" and verses 10 and 11 say:
"Therefore watch for the day when the sky brings a profound smoke.
It will envelop the people, this is a painful retribution."
Today is a day when the smoke from cars and power plants is enveloping the people, all of us, since it is global. The retribution promises to be more painful than anything in our recorded history. See the final report made public this very day of Nov. 17, 2007 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Available at http://www.ipcc.ch/ .
Peace.

The holy book has nothing to do with global warming. People with reasonable intelligence acknowledge that yes, global warming is happening, not only on Earth but also on Mars. The ice caps there seem to be melting. It's just this BS the hysterical chicken littles a spreading that people who can see past the end of their nose do not believe. Global warming and cooling has been going on for millions of years.

There is no doubt that global warming IS happening, no one who knows what they are talking about argues that point.

We measured temperatures 50 years ago and they are higher now than they were then. The earth is warmer without a dobt.

What can be debated, however, is whether or not it is caused by humans, or if we could/should do anything to try to stop it.

Belief abotu global warming is not about a holy book, and that is not what we fight wars about. We fight wars for land, money and oil, not global warming.

Holy book or Holy Cow?! GW is happening. We, humans are responsible for nearly 60 per cent of happening. This is the period which is crying for some sort of online course correction to this global phenomenon otherwise, it will be too late. Scientific findings cannot be brushed aside in the name of religious beliefs and disbeliefs. Reality is what matters most. We must save the world - it is now or never.

People need to get past the whole "you belong to a different religion so I can't agree with you." thing and start working towards a solution. I think civilized people can agree with one another but belive in two separate religions. And how could someone not belive in Global warming? I mean, the evidence is everywhere. I'm not trying to offend anyone, that's just my opinion.

it's not the holy book. they don't believe because they're stupid. global warming has been proven. and i believe that it is happening. look at what people have been doing to the planet yet we do nothing to fix it. com on people get real. let's stand up and fix our mistakes. we're ruining the planet and the destruction is devastating and destroying the planet! we need to save the planet for the future.

No a lot of AGW believers have suggested that people don't believe in global warming because they are religious. There doesn't seem to be any corrolation between religious faith and believing in global warming.

A lot of people have listened to scientific evidence from both sides and have decided that they are sceptical. There's nothing unscientific about that, science is scepticism, science is not blind faith (although a lot of people seem to treat scientific speculation as articles of faith).

Some of us don't belive in global warming because the data is faulty. It appears to be warming because the temperature is usually taken in urban areas where the population is growing and creating more heat. It is known as the urban heat effect. There are a lot of unanswered questions and alot of bad data being used.
