No, just giving up ones ability to hurt others by word or action.
God Bless.
Bring on the thumbs down....isn't that one of the main things you do here?

I think Christians are thinking for themselves more than they used to. I've been looking at the home church movement where people are leaving the institutional church and forming their own small church with no trained clergy. I think this is largely because a lot more people are thinking for themselves and are unwilling to unquestioningly accept what the preacher/pastor/leader says.
People are better educated than they were 50 years ago.and there are more books and Bible study tools available now than formerly. Plus the news coverage of events like the Jonestown mass suicide/murder and the PTL money/sex scandal (and others like it) have opened a lot of Christians eyes that the leaders are only human.
There may have been some truth to your premise decades ago, but I think it is changing. And changing for the better.
Good question.

Only if you are a fundamentalist. But actually I disagree with the second part of your comment. I think there is nothing wrong or illogical about "turning to Christ". I just think there are other things that fundies believe which take things a little too far like the literal interpretation of the Bible for example.

It isn't spoken, but there is that implication once you figure out what is going on. Yes, the christian expereince is cultish. Check out what the considerations are for a cult and they apply to it.

Some of us 'turn to Christ' because He is the 'real reality' who allows us to escape from the drug of ego/self and fog of contemporary worldviews and viewpoints. Rather the opposite of the 'opiate effect' Marx atttributed .
As C. S. Lewis said: (paraphrasing) I believe in the sun ...because I see the rest of the world by it."
So with Christ, I see the world as it really is, not the meaningless text of postmodernity.

If every time you asked a science question I told you to read a science book about it, would that be cultish?
If every time you wanted to know about gardening I said "go ask a Master gardener", would that be cultish?
I "turn to Christ" when I want to figure out how to proceed in my life, because that's where the correct answer is ... why would I look in a gardening book to figure out which path in life to take?

No, the Bible calls us to do just the opposite. The Bible presents claims, provides evidence and then calls us to make a decision. For example, when Jesus told a paralyzed man his sins were forgiven, the religious leaders balked. Jesus then said to them, "So that you know that the Son of Man has power to forgive sins, (turning to the paralytic), I say to you: Get up and walk!" Claim, evidence, call for a decision. The leaders rejected the evidence of the claim. The Apostles accepted it.

This is why it is called "Faith" and not "Reason". I have found out pretty much the hard way that one is skating on thin ice when it comes to making a critique of christians or christianity because they are very sensitive individuals, also to use the words "Mental health or impaired" in any kind of connection can be misconstrued possibly deliberately to have answers or opinions removed and your use of G.A.Romero characters in proximity to other words is, in my opinion, taking an amazing risk, you might get "Smote" best of luck with that! LOL

True God-knowing individuals are charged to use their minds to their utmost, those that don't are spiritually immature. Yes, I think the ones you refer to are ... "a little cultish" ... they are the one who think they are, well, "better than thou"... truth is; even Christ didn't teach such arrogance. So, no, real Christians have to think and think A LOT to use all that grey matter God gave them!

I think you're just very rude about others and ignorant of the church.
