I was at my local gunshop yesterday and got to handle one of these pistols for the 1st time, has a very Glock-esque feel to it but with a stainless slide and external safety. Anyone own one and what has been your experience with it? Any troubles or issues? Know of any online articles I could read about it?

I mean absolutely no offense when I say this, but I have NO desire to hear about other handguns or calibers, my interest in this question is about the Ruger SR9 ONLY. Thanks.

I have owned Ruger semi auto pistols in the past and really didn't care for their tanklike feel and construction. This new model seems to have gotten rid of the tanklike aspect.I know Ruger makes a fine firearm, but this new model seems to be their 1st venture into a new venue of firearms for Ruger.

There is a great article about the new Ruger SR9 online in Guns and Ammo magazine here's the link:

I own several Ruger handguns and have never had a problem with any of them in over 20 years.
SP 101 in 357 Magmun
Security Six in 357 Magmun
P 95 in 9mm
P 345 in 45 ACP
All have functioned prefectly, maybe because I clean and lube them after every use.

Well I like rugers so SR9 would be my choice. Between a Glock 19 and the SR9 would be a bit harder as I'm not really a fan of the full size glocks as a don't like the grip and trigger. My favourite striker fired pistols my P99 AS very nice trigger and looks better than the Glock. Out of the 3 I'd get the glock for the different mags available but I'd get the 19. Out of striker fired pistols I'd have a Walther

I am surprised by how they snuck that gun out into the market without the usual fanfare. I am skeptical because of the problems that the P-95 and P-97 had. And as usual, Ruger is too little-too late with this model.
My experience tells me not to gamble on guns that have failed to meet the 10-year track record of existance, and even then to be cautious (the P-95 is 10 years old and still sucks). Nice looking gun, but naaaaaaaaah. Once bitten (P-95), twice shy (about SR9).

The Ruger Factory Rep was in my shop with one this past Monday. I didn't shoot it but hand a chance to dry fire it. I wasn't impressed at all with the trigger pull. It wasn't what I expected at all... Too heavy and sloppy....The jury is obviously still out on the shooting part. I like Rugers idea/design of a striker fired concept pistol though...

A buddy of mine had a Ruger P89 that I did not like ("tank-like feel") and I saw their new SR9 and it looks nothing like that. I mean in line of feel. I have not had an opportunity to hold one yet. It actually kind of reminds me though (from pics) of the S&W M&P. Maybe a little Walther P99-ish... I am looking forward to getting my paws on one to see what it is like.

As with the S&W Sigma ( Glock-ripoff) and M&P, the Springfield XD, and Taurus 24/7, it's just another Glock clone that is gonna have a LONG tough row to hoe to try & prove it's 'just as good'.
I'll stick to my USP .45 & Walther PPK/S back-up, unless my USP ever has to go in the shop, which I HIGHLY doubt. If so, I still have my PROVEN Glock 17 as a second!

You never really know whether the gun is right for you, or whether you will like it until you actually bfire a few magazine fulls.

Dude just go buy the gun, you know you're going to anyhow, just hurry up and do it so I can shoot it next week at the range.
