There are a number of fantastic mailing lists and websites that can help. I'm sure that most here will recommend Witchvox - which is fantastic, I tend to suggest a small one at wicca.com/celtic/cc002.htm for beginers.
My advice is to consider everything "lore" & not "law". It's all advisory, if something doesn't feel right then look in a different direction.
