Do you really believe that marital fidelity is rare? That's kind of sad.

I'd disagree with "rarely"...most of the Christians I know take this commandment as seriously as they take the sixth one (do not kill)...and I don't know a single person in any church I attended that went to jail for murder! Not saying it doesn't happen...yes, it does and it is unfortunately common...but marital fidelity isn't "rare".

The way I see it, adultery is about the stupidest decision a married person can make...a person is only a good as his or her word and if you gave your word to be faithful, failure to keep that promise makes you a liar AND an adulterer. The harm people cause to themselves and others due to marital infidelity is shockingly obvious to anyone that has their eyes open...anyone who watches the news knows the consequences of adultery can include murder, assault/battery, vandalism, divorce and child abuse (at a minimum emotional abuse).

Christians certainly should know better because the 7th commandment makes it clear God doesn't think adultery is a good idea...but not all people that claim to be Christian are really following the example of Christ and others allow themselves to be deceived by worldly concerns and influences. In my experience at least, adultery is rarely a concern when both parties put God first in the marriage and guard against it with all their might. I can't think of a single instance in which I was shocked to learn about the adulterous behavior of a Christian I knew...all had displayed clear signs before that behavior that they weren't following God instructions for building a strong marriage.

Interesting that you feel free to make the accusation that the majority of Christians are out there committing adultery.

Regardless, these commandments are not binding on Christians; they were binding on Israelites. They were the ones who were a party to that covenant law.

A real Christian, motivated by the Spirit of God in them, would not go about committing acts that are contrary to the love they are to have for other people. To commit adultery for a Christian is to violate love. If one claimed to be Christian and committed adultery, I would seriously doubt they are truly a Christian. You know them by their fruits.

Jesus says to not even lust after another person, let alone sleep with someone who you are not lawfully married to.

"Rarely" followed? I know many many Christian couples who are commited for a lifetime. A lot of couples have problems, but work through them, and then there are those who decide to hurt everyone around them and forsake God by cheating on their spouse. But I would not say that most CHristians do this.

By the way, you can heal a marriage that has been scarred by infidelity with faith patience and love.

My husband cheated, and I forgave him. We are divorced now, but I am content in knowing that I forgave him and did everything in my power to save our marriage.

I am wondering why you state "But rarely any Christian follows this." I have been faithful to a fault and I know many other married couples who can say the same thing. I think those people who take their marriage seriously and take the Bible seriously follow this without any trouble. Those who do find themselves led astray have probably been outside the will of God, it is easier to be tempted by sin when God is not the focus of your life, even when your marriage is difficult.

I don't know of any Christians who do that, but I'm sure the statistics are the same for Christians and non-Christians alike. There are so many sins that Christians commit too - we're human also. Does that mean we're ignoring all of them? Nope. We're all sinners.

It's not right to commit adultery. Jesus also says that to lustfully want to commit adultery is the same thing as actually doing it.

God knew it was tempting for EVERYONE to commit adultery - if you read the Bible, there are warnings everywhere (esp. in Psalms) against doing it.

You are basing this on what. You say rarely. I dont know many christian who are willing to cheat on their wives/husband. Even if I talked about people not being perfect and making mistakes, that would not even fit this one cause most of the people I know think the worst thing you can do is cheat on your spouse. Dont put people into one catergory, that is called stereotyping.

You don't have to be a Christian to know that adultery destroys families, causes tremendous pain and emotional damage, spreads disease, and is just plain wrong. But certainly a Christian should be aware that it also violates the will of God for our lives and marriages.

I think christian or not, you should only be with wife/husband, after you have made that commitment. I do believe in God, and I for one do not commit adultery.

Many people fall into the trap of the lust of the eyes, also those who even look at another person like that outside of marriage as already committed adultery according to scripture.
