1st question: My dvd player and onyko surround sound do not have hdmi connections so what wires do I need to buy and what is the proper way to set up through cable box so I get best sound and picture.

2nd: If I buy a receiver with hdmi and a blue ray than I would only need hdmi cables right. Lastly if I buy a receiver with 1.3 hdmi I'll only need one wire running to tv.

I know these are a lot of questions. Still trying to get the hang of this. Let me know if I am way off in thinking this way. Thanks

1. If your DVD has no HDMI, connect component video from the player to the TV and digital audio (coax or optical) from the DVD player to the surround system.

2. Yes. However, your existing receiver will work as well.
Connect HDMI from BD to TV and digital audio from BD to surround system.

3. 1.3 is irrelevant. You will need a cable from BD to receiver and a cable from receiver to TV.

hello You will hook up the cable box hdmi output to the recievers hdmi input. then hook up the recievers hdmi output to the tv's hdmi input. You will need to configure a few settings both on the cable box, and the tv's input. Most cable boxes have to be configured to display the correct output that your tv can display. Your cable provider can help you setup this feature. Then you have to go into your tv's setting to make sure you setup the tvs input to select the hdmi's input. If this is a new tv, it is important to be careful not to display a static image on the screen or 4:3 image for the first few months to eliminate the posibility of burn in. Put the tv in stretch mode for 4:3 images for this amount of time. After that take readjust the setting so that it does not stretch the 4;3 image to fit your screen. This will give you the best picture and reduce the possibliity of damaging your screen permently. This goes for all types of tvs except CRT Enjoy Kevin
