There are several countries in the world where the national religion is mandatory...everyone must believe it, practice it, attend services, live strictly by the religious texts.

Most are Islamic countries....

Others prohibit religion at all - like China. The former Soviet Union was another. If a citizen was found with a religious text or secretly holding church services, they were jailed and usually banished to Siberia.

So, you see what trouble you can get into when you start forcing others to believe the way you do....

We don't do that in America. We are free people.

Um, I'm a Christian and I'm not into forcing people to be the same. Becoming a Christian should come from the "force" of the Holy Spirit, but it has nothing to do with what you're talking about. I'm sorry if you've felt some kind of pressure from other Christians. It makes me sad that they are out their sullying the name of Christ. I hope that you can forgive them for their mistakes. And, I also hope that you will not hold it against all Christians in the world.

I for one totally do not think that anyone should follow my religion if he doesn't want to. Religion should be a choice. What is the objective in forcing people to believe something, I don't get it.

Yes! Oh that it were that simple! For me and everyone else. Imagine that we were forced to obey and thus never fell or once fallen we never erred again! It would be wonderful, but it would also be pointless. It is a shame that over the centuries zealous people forced Christianity down others throats when a little love would have eased it's passing.

If you bother to read other answers of mine you will see that I am quite forthright and firm bordering on both sides of rude, but I would never dream of forcing my faith on you. I answer the best I can and what you do is your decision.

Of course one day non Christians will pay us back by forcing their beliefs (if you can call it that) down our throats. It has already started in the world. Soon one day Preachers will be hauled off to jail just because they say homosexuals, adulterers, and all manner of deviants are sinful.

I don't know of any Christian that thinks that....no one CAN be forced to become a Christian. You either come under conviction of the Holy Spirit and accept Christ or you don't...no other person can make you.

Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission to "go and tell". We aren't the judges, just the messengers of the good news of Jesus.

I don't think anybody should be forced to follow any religion. A religion is only a ritual. It's not about ritual (religion), it's about relationship. There is only One True God and He only wants a personal relationship with you. Just fall in love with Him like He fell in love with you and if you read the Bible and ask God for understanding, you will learn what God wants to do for you and what He expects from you.

No true Christian thinks anyone should be forced to follow the Christian religion. At least, not forced by men, but drawn by the irresistable grace of the loving God of Heaven.

John 6:43 Jesus answered them, "Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

No one should be forced to be a CHristian. If one is forced then it is NOT true conversion nor repentance.

That person who repents is only saying the prayer formula in order to get the Christian off his/her back. he she does not mean a word she/he says.

No one can honestly force someone to follow their religion.

God excepts only true converts, so too force anyone to agree with you especially on the Word of God would not be very favorable to God.
