I wanted to make sugar cookies but realized I was out of white sugar. Could I use brown sugar instead?

No, you won't get the same cookie or the same results. You'll get a browner, crisper cookie and it won't have that melting flakiness of a true sugar cookie.

Brown sugar and white sugar are both sweeteners, but different ones. Substituting things like that may give you a new cookie- not necesarily better or as good as the ones you intended to make, although it is a possiblity

it's definitely not an equal substitution. There'd be a significant difference in taste and color. Run out and get some white sugar.... you need it anyway.

This will give your cookies a deeper color and flavor - more like you used molasses, but yes you could swap the two. Just be prepared for the different taste of them.

Yes you can but use less as the brown sugar is sweeter.
