i was raised a born again christian and not a catholic and was taught that man and woman were created to pro-create and serve the Father. Thus, man on man and girl on girl relationships cannot ever lead to the purpose God placed us here on this planet...to give him children to believe.
I was also raised to believe that the most devilish religion in the world is Catholicism, so my judgemet is probably pretty thwarted and off base from the rest of society.
A mortal sin, according to Wikipedia, must meet the following criteria:
"In all Catholic moral theology, a mortal sin, as distinct from a venial sin, must meet all of the following conditions:
-its subject must be a grave (or serious) matter;
-it must be committed with full knowledge, both of the sin and of the gravity of the offense;
-it must be committed with deliberate and complete consent."
So if one cannot pro-create because they are having sex with the same sex then it is a very grave matter. So in my opinion is it a mortal sin? Yes.
But the reality of the life we are in today? We are living in total turmoil in the American society, about ready to destroy ourselves and have another Babylon because we have way to many choices. So if girl on girl turns you on and you never want to have children of your own, raised by a father and mother, go ahead and enjoy yourself. I love my girlfriends deeply and no man could ever fill their place. But no woman can ever fill the wholeness that a man brings to my soul.
Happy balance to be found? Yes. Need to live in guilt for your choices? No way.

Technically, the definition of a mortal sin (at least in Catholicism) is to break one of the Ten Commandments, and this does not fit that criteria.
As for the common view that same-sex relations are morally wrong, that really depends on your definition of the purpose of sex. Is sex only for the purpose of procreation, or is it also to reinforce an emotional bond between two people. I don’t think we can ignore the fact that most heterosexual couples actively employ the use birth control in some form or another to prevent pregnancy. With the element of procreation eliminated, how is this different from homosexual relations?
I am also aware that some supporters of birth control argue their way out of this by invoking the holy sacrament of matrimony as a vessel which sanctifies the base, lustful passions into something clean and holy. But then, we have that marriage is not sacred any longer: statistically speaking, marriages have a fifty percent chance of ending in divorce, and I do not even want to start on the statistics on adultery.
Even without divorce and adultery, marriage without love and respect is nothing more than a legal contract tying two people together -- it is no longer holy. A truly loving same-sex couple who respect and honor each other have my respect; whereas, a “Christian” couple who drag through a dead marriage without even trying simply because it is socially acceptable make me shake my head in disbelief at the hypocrisy.

In the bible it states that God created man and woman... and for man and woman, God created sex... by not keep couples heterosexual you are destroy the way God meant for creation to behave...

yeah, it is a sin reguardless. God sees all sin as the same, cheating, muder, stealing, adultry, anything that goes against His word is sin. sin is always sin in God's eyes.

I think that it is okay. I wouldn't want to be persecuted if I loved a man in a gay's only world.
