My cats have fleas, I can't seem to get rid of them after shampooing. Would shaving them be drastic? I have no money for treatments...

Purchase some Sevin Dust in the garden department of Kmart, Walmart or a home and garden shop. Sprinkle it all over your cats and on your carpets as you would carpet fresh, leave overnight then vacuum up. Repeat again in a week.

Sevin Dust is made of dried chrysanthemum flowers and won't hurt your pet. It is by far cheaper than flea powder which is made of the same thing!

It kills the fleas but not the eggs. I remember when I was a kid my mom and dad would dust our Tom Cat then he'd come running out of the garage in a cloud of dust!

Don't shave them. That's pointless; fleas live on BLOOD, not fur. Shaving may take away flea's hiding place, but it won't stop them. Also, not nice for your cats!!

You could've saved the money you spent on flea shampoo - which is worthless stuff anyway - and put it towards getting some Frontline.

You are absolutely wasting your time and money if you get anything BUT the flea treatments sold at vets. Only vets are licensed to sell the chemicals that actually kill fleas. Do yourself a favour and just get some Frontline anyway, you'll end up doing it anyway after you've wasted money on all the other worthless crap from pet stores.

The last lady I say who'd tried to avoid Frontline to save money had a £140 bill for toxicity.

First a question for you..........

Are these indoor ONLY cats?

If they are allowed to come and go as they please, you will NEVER get the fleas under control. They will keep bringing fleas inside your house.

You can buy Advantage for large dogs on-line or on eBay. Put a drop per pound of cat on each cat. This is the exact same thing they sell for cats, they just premeasure it for you.

Fleas are what gives dogs and cats tapeworms, so if you have fleas, they also have worms.

If you cannot afford to treat them for fleas, what will happen if one needs to go to the Vet?

this is a process. Number one, one flea can give birth to thousands of offspring's that get into clothes, rugs, mattresses and so on. The cat must be removed and go to a vet for a flea bath and you must get bombs to set off in your home. only this way can you be rid of them. then once am month and every month use revolution to protect you and the cat from now on.

The only way to truly get rid of the fleas is with medicine (usually Frontline Plus). Fleas are very dangerous to animals, especially kittens. They can cause tapeworm and kill cats.

Fleas can lay hundreds of eggs in your carpets, on your furniture, pretty much everywhere. You need to treat your home also.

Go to your vet. There you should be able to get these drops that are applied to the back of the neck(base of the skull area) that will rid your cats of fleas. Ask your Vet if these will be alright for your cats.

shampoo the cat and spray the house down with alcohol. alcohol will kill the fleas and not bleach fabrics. when you do get the money advantage or the other brands works pretty well.

Scrape up just a few bucks for Advantage. You can order a kit from eBay that will treat several cats, for a fraction of the cost of buying it at a vets.

The Sevin dust is a good idea, but you need to vacum first before putting it on your carpet, empty your vacum or change bag and then revacum after waiting a bit and then again empty your vacum. The Advantage does work really well also.

Bath the cat in dawn dish soap and put moth balls around the house for a month or so. I did this for my cat and it worked.
