I can't answer your question, but you've mentioned you're trying to retain your muscle bulk back. Are you taking creatine supplements? If so, stop. This forces water into your muscles and could be causing you more hassle

I have no idea about the water, but I was looking at some of your other questions about fibromyalgia. I was wrongly diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was the same as you, I had very painful muscles in my arms and my legs would feel weak the further I would walk. I would also get very fatigued, short of breath and had all the pressure point pains. I was sent to lots of doctors, had muslce tests, checked for autoimune diseases, etc. It turned out that I had what is called "delayed pressure urticaria" . These are kind of like hives/swelling that is very deep under the skin, but your skin on the outside surface looks normal often. The reason I mention it is that you said your skin and muscles had this kind of watery feeling and was sensitive. Keep pressure urticaria in mind because it is not obvious unless you think about it. You would feel worse in heat, excercising, after drinking alcohol, after wearing tight clothes, etc.

Whatever is causing your pain, I would get a referal to an referal to an internist. They are good at solving medical puzzles. I'd stay away from the weights for a while and go swimming a few times a week instead. (Stay out of the sauna.) If your pain continues for several months, get a referal to a pain clinic. Good luck.

Any reason for drinking ice cold water? The body has its own temperature, imagine flooding it with ice cold water? Ice cream headache, or running out of a boiling sauna into a ice cold plunging pool. Might be healthy for those healthy people but not with Fibro! As for muscle bulk in your back, try Pilate's! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibro plus a few more health problems so exercise was something I was careful about. However the Hospital PT enrolled me into a Pilate's Class for beginners. Now it was hard graft at 48, came home and collapsed into bed. However one, one hour lesson a week and slowly I built up muscle tone? Mind you that was sheer panic as I was having a shower and noticed these 'lumps' that I never had before. I told the Pilate's Instructor who burst out laughing 'Lumps they are not lumps they are muscles and well defined muscles!' Therefore stop drinking ice water, but try water at room temperature. Then look for a Pilate's Class and enjoy.

I also have fibromyalgia so I understand your struggle. I am unsure if it's the ice water causing the pain I've never experienced that. But I do know that the slightest change in temperature will cause pain. And if you do allot of physical activity it will cause severe pain, it's a catch 22 if we don't exercise we loose our muscle strength but if we do we suffer.
